Christmas on Honeysuckle Lane

2018

Emma Reynolds returns to Oliver's Well to celebrate Christmas for the last time with her siblings in the home they grew up in. After their parents recently passed, the siblings reluctantly agree to sell the family home on Honeysuckle Lane after the New Year, leaving Emma in charge of its belongings. While antiques expert Morgan Shelby appraises Emma's mother's collection, they find a hidden surprise in an antique desk that takes them on a journey to discover the power of love and family during the holidays.

Alicia Wittmas is over😭. Damn UK streaming doesn’t have the other 4 Hallmark movies she made so I can’t finish them.☹️
I forgot what happened in this movie because I was too sad. I’m sorry, Alicia Witt. I tried to finish them all.👩🏻‍🦰 I’ll try again next year.👀
5 stars because she sang her own original songs.🎶 She’s still the Xmas queen to me.😩

I worked on this movie. Here are some fun facts:
-In the scene where Emma enters her childhood bedroom, I am holding the door open behind her
-on our first day we shot for 16 hours and I was hungover for all of it
-this movie is directed by the same person who directed GET A CLUE
-one day on set it was kid actor Owen's birthday and we all got ice cream cake and that's the best experience I ever had on a film set
-Owen also didn't know that you didn't have to eat ALL the pancakes on your plate during each take. He ate a lot of pancakes.
-Owen ALSO fell into a bucket and got stuck in between filming the snowman contest
-my dad is in this movie and knows exactly what time code he comes up at (he is at the counter behind the sisters at the cafe)

About 20 minutes in, my wife said “Is this going to turn into a horror movie?” and I said “I guarantee you that this is not going to turn into a horror movie” but then I silently scolded myself for being so declarative and I started worrying that it was going to turn a horror movie.
Anyway, about halfway through I was so unnerved by a subtext about family sexual abuse that didn’t exist that I had to stop the movie and talk about it with my wife, who then explained the actual plot to me while laughing at me.

Bit early for a Christmas movie but some days it just happens! This is your typical Hallmark movie, city girl returns to her home town, meets handsome man, ex boyfriend shows up to win her back, she of course has fallen in love with another but they have a misunderstanding. The usual you know.
It is not a bad movie, I wasn't exactly convinced the chemistry was there between the leads but it didn't really matter. It's Christmas and miracles always happen right?

So I know I started watching this one last year, but for some reason never finished it.
I actually liked the two leads. The guy is kind of awkward but charming, and I've always liked Alicia Witt. The worst thing about this, if you're not a grouchy "I hate Hallmark " kind of person, is the awful music that's played when Alicia Witt is wandering around town looking all forlorn. If it wasn't so near the end of the movie, I could've believed it was the reason I never finished this a year ago.

Sorry, but I don’t think Alicia Witt will ever be able to live down her role as June Carver on Two Weeks Notice – I can’t focus on her as any other character! Also, her hair looks pretty bad in this movie and the three siblings don’t look like they’re related. There were a lot of continuity errors and over-acted ridiculous lines/gestures, but I did enjoy the little bit of mystery.

okay this actually ended up being very sweet and somewhat different than your standard Hallmark holiday fare, but I absolutely could not stop thinking about this review of it that mentions becoming so unnerved by a nonexistent subtext of family sexual abuse. the first half of this is INSANE and so strange, parts of the character’s old house keep triggering these memories which are supposed to seem sweet but the music behind the vignettes is troubling...almost foreboding? definitely a sense that something wasn’t right. but knowing the review existed and seeing it play out before me made it even funnier, honestly
Alicia Witt is very charming, just as much as she was in Last Holiday. I’d watch 20 of these with her…
