So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
You ask me if there'll come a time
When I grow tired of you
Never, my love
Never, my love
You wonder if this heart of mine
Will lose its desire for you
Never, my love
Never, my love
What makes you think love will end?
When you know that my whole life depends
On you (on you)
Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba (ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba)
Never, my love
Never, my love
You say you fear I'll change my mind
I won't require you
Never, my love
Never, my love
How can you think love will end
When I've asked you to spend your whole life
With me? (with me, with me)
Never, my love (never, my love)
Never, my love
Never, my love (never, my love)
Never, my love
Never, my love
When I grow tired of you
Never, my love
Never, my love
You wonder if this heart of mine
Will lose its desire for you
Never, my love
Never, my love
What makes you think love will end?
When you know that my whole life depends
On you (on you)
Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba (ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba)
Never, my love
Never, my love
You say you fear I'll change my mind
I won't require you
Never, my love
Never, my love
How can you think love will end
When I've asked you to spend your whole life
With me? (with me, with me)
Never, my love (never, my love)
Never, my love
Never, my love (never, my love)
Never, my love
Never, my love

I have heard this song before but most recently heard it on the film "Whip It". It is so beautiful and romantic. The lyrics are about the love of your life...someone you never grow tired of, never lose desire for, your whole life depends on him, you'll never change your mind, never stop loving him and want to spend your whole life with him.

@RoseTeaCup1216 its a great song!
this song is amazing.
i was listening to the oldies station the other day and this came on, it has such a happy beat
Even though I was never particularly fond of the Hammond organ in the background, I always loved this song growing up. I still think it would be amazing if it were arranged for a cappella voices--you can get a little of what it might sound like in the middle of the song as it currently exists.
oh man this song has gotten me more trim than an aluminum siding convention. My wife had never heard of the association until I sang her this song, now its on her cell phone. Thank you Association!!!
Timeless classic. Will sound still as good even hundreds of years later.
It's so calm. A truly wonderful song. I actually like the Hammond organ in the background.
