English: The Column of Victory, Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire. Started five years after the 1st Duke of Marlborough's death and completed in 1730, this Doric "Column of Victory" is 41m high. Its capital is surmounted by eagles, plaques of lions' heads and a Romanesque torch-bearing lead statue of the 1st Duke by Robert Pit. It commemorates the 1st Duke's victory at the Battle of Blenheim in the War of the Spanish Succession.
