The words “family bonding” will take on a whole new meaning in The Blacklist‘s upcoming sixth season.
When the NBC drama returns with a two-part premiere next month, it will give Liz Keen some quality time with half-sister Jennifer (The Purge‘s Fiona Dourif). After all, their joint mission to destroy Raymond Reddington — rather, the man pretending to be Raymond Reddington — will be a rather unique bonding experience.
“These are two women who have very different backgrounds,” series creator Jon Bokenkamp reminds us. “Jennifer was just short of living in hiding in a witness protection program. Liz was becoming a law enforcement agent. They have different mothers. But they do share Raymond Reddington as a father. They both believed that this man was Raymond Reddington. There’s this betrayal that has bonded them, these two very different people.”
Still, even though Liz and Jennifer have a common goal — to ruin Red’s imposter and get to the root of his many secrets — Bokenkamp hints that “the way in which they will choose to run down this story is not always going to be the same. They may not always agree.”
And lest you think that Liz will have a strictly by-the-book approach to taking down the fake Raymond Reddington, Bokenkamp can assure you that The Blacklist‘s leading lady is “not necessarily a squeaky-clean FBI agent” in Season 6.
“It’s probably important to point out that while Jennifer has no real law enforcement experience, Liz not only is an FBI agent, she’s an FBI agent who has arced dark, believing that Raymond Reddington is her father for the past five years,” Bokenkamp teases. “I mean, she stewed somebody last season. The way in which they navigate this story together is going to be fun to watch.”
The Blacklist‘s two-part premiere will kick off on Thursday, Jan. 3 at 10/9c and continue on Friday, Jan. 4 at 9/8c (which will serve as its regular time slot).

I’m sorry but I’m not buying this bones storyline. For the first 4 and half seasons we are shown how careful and calculated Red is but his one weakness these bones he just buries and doesn’t destroy out right. Makes no sense.
I agree, that was stupid, IF that’s what really happened .
I think Red has a plan to use their passion to take him down to solve one of his other problems.
He’s still Red and using people for his own best interest — they will all be back together in the end.
Best theory I’ve read so far!
Hope your scenario is true otherwise who needs the show
yep.
Too much speculation on this bones arc.
Let’s just say hypothetically the bones belong to the “real” Red. Ok; this “imposter” Red…how did he fool the verification by the FBI?..ie; DNA, fingerprint, etc. So the real Red was never a criminal? So this fake Red is somehow linked to this “Liz”..therefore logic dictates that Liz is NOT Liz. The original Liz died in the fire as a child. This Liz is not only fake Red’s daughter; but a clone of the originals memories. Recall Liz’s memories has been stated to have been manipulated by Red in the past. She has hazy sketchy recollections.
Wow great story….hmmm…I think you may be right!
I agree 100%
I’m glad this article came up. It killed the small possibility of catching up on the show. I always thought the show was best when Liz and Red weren’t enemies.
Yep I agree, they RUINED IT!!!!! So lame, I used to love this show, now I won’t be watching it!!
Glad to see I’m not the only one thinking this was a complete destruction of the show. Changes the entire premise and ruins the Red/Liz dynamic.
Exactly
I agree. I enjoyed the original premise of Liz and Red teaming up, even when their relationship was somewhat antagonistic, to bring in other criminals. The whole “Red isn’t really Red” twist didn’t do anything for me, and I’m not interested at all in watching Liz try to destroy Red. I might read recaps, but doubt I’ll watch the show itself.
A show so heavily dependent on mass shootouts and other gunplay for its dramatic tension is of no interest to me in 2019. Recaps for me.
You think this show uses a lot if firearms hardware? Broadcast tv OTA are so heavily regulated unlike PPV/streaming. It’s a show about criminals, spies, people overall doing evil deeds.
Remove what little action; you’re then left with emo people in their monotonous, frivolous relationships mimicking reality.
Thank gawd there’s PPV/streaming options for the rest of us looking for action and less drama. Or simply less on a rediculous subplots The Blacklist has turned into with stll no end in sight.
Looking forward to this, but I feel it will be the last season and hopefully they write it to that end.
I didn’t even watch last season’s finale because I heard that the “imposter’s theory” that has been around forever was true. I liked watching Raymond Reddington, the navy man, family man who betrayed everything, the spy that the Russians respected, the guy who loved Katarina and had a daughter with her and that’s why he was obsessed with Liz, he had pictures of her as child, videos of her as teenager, it was wrong but you could kinda get why he wanted to know everything about her, even manipulate her life but nope, not her father and there goes my interest. I will wait until the show is finished and the showrunners’ explanation why this random guy decided to pretend to be the most wanted guy in the world and obsess about Liz, if it’s not entirely ridiculous (a very tall order) I’ll catch up someday.
How could you not watch season finale. Win, lose, draw. I have to see it to the end.
Might suck but least you’ll have closure. But that’s me.
I can’t wait to see Blacklist again tk goodness merry Xmas when does it come back ?
See closing line.
Me 2 so tired of repeat shows.
I love those girls together but I’m devistated about taking down red. I wonder if that was the plot all along but then why make us all love red just to rip him apart? On the edge of my seat and rooting for Liz to forgive this imposter!!
Not going to happen unless Red wants it to end this way. Red has intelligence, power and connections. Enough said!
Kill off Liz, she’s tedious. Not interested in half-hour sister either. Enhance Spader’s role, setting him up for doing spinoff. Blacklist getting old ;but Raymond Reddington character is fun.
I agree completely
Loved this show the first season but it’s been downhill since. The writers just don’t seem to get it, people like Liz and Red workingtogether but they do everything to keep them apart. Everyone like Red but it seems they do everything lately to make him unlikeable. The problem is the entire show is based on this secret of who he really is. You can’t do six seasons of that. They really should have answered that years ago and moved on.
Agreed. Too much plodding along, stretching things out into the absurdity with it’s milking the viewers until they’re bored and whatever shock value is diminished. The writers really need to quicken the pace and close these old subplots before the series is axed by the network.
I agree. I loved to see Liz and Red working together. I don’t care for her “sister”. The writers of this show seems to have completely ignored its mythology and the audiences. I watch the show to see Red/Spader. I’m not interested to see sisters bonding. It’s over for me.
I agree….we all love Liz and Red together….just keep them as they are and get rid of the wannabe sister…can’t stand her!
Part of me is not looking forward to any of this. I’ve never enjoyed the show as much, when Liz and Red weren’t on the same page.
Great show. Can’t wait for the new season.
I’d rather see Red take out the both of them. Liz has gotten to be dislikeable and I don’t like the sister at all. And suddenly deciding that Red really isn’t Red makes no sense. What’s the next twist? At the end of this season, will they suddenly “discover” that Red really is Red after all? *rolls eyes*
I say Liz may not be Liz.
The real Liz died as a child. This Liz is a clone of oartly Red’s DNA. Her limited memories as a child was implanted. Red has messed with her mind in the past.
..just a theory…
*partly
Totally agree
Red shows immense care and love for Liz yet really non for Jennifer. Do not believe they are related. Dreading watching FBI Special Agent turn Nancy Drew and company. Think it could be more boring than exiting unless they nip this in the bud early. Who wants to watch 22 seasons drawn out of Lizzy trying to screw Red over?
Raymond should be Raymond there has to be another reason for those bones. He loves Liz. I know he is hurting, being rejected. The other daughter is brainwashed.
Love this show!!! Can’t wait to see new episode
I am of the following opinion: Red is Katarina.
This is a great show; I’ve liked it and watched it from episode one.
I guess the fake Reddington will be punished by these two and the road to finding him will be very interesting.
I’m look forward to what I’m sure will be an interesting cat and mouse chase.
I neither find the character of Jennifer nor actress who plays her compelling or charismatic
I don’t think we’ve seen enough of her yet. I really liked the actress as Bart on Dirk Gently.
This show jumped the shark a while ago for me….I won’t be watching.
James Spader’s dialogue alone on The Blacklist is thoughtful and intellectual, not to mention his near perfect performances every episode! The supporting cast members are strong and believable. There is too much gratuitous violence though which sometimes lessens the impact of the scripts. On the whole, this has turned out to be one of my favorite series. It is largely due to the Red character!
I agree with your views Cindy 100%.
I have watched 5 seasons ,loved every minute of it ,I want be watching season 6 ,it means nothing to me now:(
Watched 5 seasons loved it means nothing to me now.
I sincerely hope it’s as good as it’s been. I love this show – have since its inception – and, having a feeling this will be the last season (though I’d hate it, I’m afraid they’ll run out of story arcs) I hope it gives us really exciting episodes to root for and cheer over.
Count bunnies in Braxton and imagine they were both there that night and Red took Liily to Carla while Katarina took Masha to Kate.
You assume the girl in the closet is Elizabeth and yet who is she talking to? What is the girls were raised together being the sme age and then they were separated? What if Lilly shot the man and Masha witnessed it and ran?
I feel this is totally wrong having the best actor in the show in jeopardy of being taking out. I feel Red killed the other guy because he was done having him of watching out for the girls. Because now he wants to be back in thier life’s. And it’s pretty lame to think Red would be so careless with the bones if it was indeed the real red.
Red is to intelligent, strong, powerful with connections. He uses the FBI like a puppet. If it wasn’t for Red white would you have Nothing.
