Biography[]

Otto Christoffersen was the second son of King Christopher II of Denmark and was the younger brother of Eric Christoffersen of Denmark. He was given the title "Duke of Lolland and Estonia" and was expected to expand Denmark's Baltic possessions following the Livonian Crusade. His father and brother were deposed in 1326 and reinstated three years later, and, on Christopher's death in 1332, Otto and his brother Valdemar IV of Denmark attempted to seize the throne. Otto was defeated at Taphed in 1334 and imprisoned, and he was released upon his brother's rise to power in 1340. He went on to join the Teutonic Order in 1346.
