ROBERTS, Arthur Jr. ARTHUR CHESTER ROBERTS, JR. 1941-2021 Arty—a giant-hearted man—never complained nor blamed. The song Ave Maria by Franz Schubert would bring him to tears every time he heard it. The eldest of three boys, Arty grew up at 12 Walnut Street in Needham, Massachusetts. Arthur Chester Roberts was a hockey loving, open-minded, curious and wild soul who selflessly gave his heart and soul to his family. While he would hold anyone's hand and loved life, he pulled no punches and "said it as it was," in a thick Boston accent. He would talk with anyone with an open and curious mind and would give support to everyone he encountered. A lifelong learner, he collected books on science, meditation, cooking, religion, art and math. Arty loved to dance, cook, and listen to music. He frequented art museums and hockey rinks. A loving husband, father, mentor, and coach, his three favorite things were family, fishing, and going to an ice rink to watch any level of hockey. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother William "Billy" Roberts. Arthur is survived by his wife Mary Lee; brother Neil Roberts; daughter Tracey Robert; son Tim Roberts; and daughter-in-law Jennifer Roberts; three grandchildren, Connor, Cameron, and Fionn; and many nieces, nephews, friends and family. After completing his degree at Boston College (which took him 9 years—some trees grow slower) and an MBA at Northeastern University, Arty became the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at The New England College of Optometry from 1972-1995. Ever curious, later in his successful career, he decided to try something new and joined the sports management company Woolf Associates in Boston before retirement. A memorial clambake will be held on the Halunen family homestead Sept. 5, 2021 at noon. Contact the family if you plan to attend, we will provide the lobster BYOB . If you would like to spread some of Arty's ashes, please contact the family. You can spread as you wish or leave in your pocket to have the occasional cocktail and conversation with Arty. (By special request, we can add some of brother Billy's ashes. Most of Billy was spread in Fenway after game 6 of the 2013 World Series Red Sox win. We may need the mojo again. GO SOX!) If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation in his honor, please send to: THE SOUP KITCHEN OF GREATER WHEELING PO BOX 546 WHEELING, WV 26003 Arty, you will be missed greatly. Your heart was big enough to share with all the world, your family & friends felt your unwavering love and support.
