The story of SALT started with Keith and Ali's love for Shelter Island. SALT was designed as a come as you are restaurant with a focus on fresh and local foods, that anyone can enjoy. They wanted to create a place they would want to go for dinner or drinks and find friendly service from other people who live and love Shelter Island. We treat locals like celebrities and celebrities like locals!

Located on the water front, it is a beautiful place to sit down and eat. Prices are a bit high but the food and service are great. recommended are the shrimp scampi and warm lobster roll.

Mentioned it was my special birthday when making reservation. It never was acknowledged.
Seated on time, but put next to a very loud group of 10 men, who should have been in the bar area, not the Restaurant.
Food was inadequate and cold. Extremely pricey.
Gave it 3* because waitress was nice. The view was blocked.

SALT offers great outside seating options. We enjoyed various dinner options and very good service. We enjoyed dinner there enough that we returned for a second evening during our 4 day stay on the island.
We also had lunch on our way to and from the island at PORT in Greenport which appears to be a related restaurant. The same comments apply to PORT.

The seafood was delicious but the highlight was our delightful, charming server, Jackie. So cheerful and exceptionally efficient, she added so much to an outstanding experience. The marina setting was beautiful and it was our favorite meal on the Island.

While visiting Shelter Island for the day we had lunch here. We were seated on the outdoor patio and there was a very pretty water view and lots of boats to see. Food was great, service was excellent

Chef Bobby is exceptional. We used SALT for our rehearsal dinner and they catered our reception at the Boathouse. The food was talked about by all guests. They raved about the family style set up. The quality of food and seasonal choices were adored by all guests. They hosted our after party as well, such a wonderful time from tasting to after party. Highly impressed and hope you visit this harbor side gem!

While I was visiting Shelter Island, I wanted to treat myself to a special lunch. This seafood restaurant immediately caught my eye. I enjoyed the surroundings of the boats and of the water. I had the mahi-mahi tacos which cost about twenty-four dollars ($24.00). The servers were very friendly, but it did take a little bit of time for me to put in my order. Yet, the food came out almost immediately. While I thought that the food was delicious, I did feel that the portion size was a bit small for the price.

Great food. The chowder is the best. Try it!
Busy. But fast service. Really well run. Great location and view. Fun outdoor bar next door for before or after.

Don't be confused... that's NOT three dinners for THE PRICE of two. If you order the sushi , keep in mind you may be ordering an appetizer, not a dinner. Our waitress warned us beforehand, but I figured, "for $19 each, how small could they be?" I figured wrong.) So we each shared our suchi & then went lowball for our 3rd choice, a hummus vegetable plate that was .. well, a vegetable plate.
So, you've been warned.
Again, I'm not too hip on high prices for slightly adequate food. But it's a nice place for ambiance (outside on the wa. I thought service was pretty good too, despite all the hubbub about labor shortages.

Salt on Shelter Island is one of our favorite spots for sushi and Happy Hour. We pull up by dinghy and enjoy the marina views. The shipwreck bar no longer brings the sushi up, but they now have a food truck.

Went today for my 51st birthday 🥳 menu is amazing. Different choices which my family loves. We had the eggplant meatballs, ededame guacamole, lawbster fries which were all amazing. My daughter and I had the Mediterranean salad, the guys had the ahi tuna burrito and the crab cake sandwich which were all also amazing. We sat outside which was nice not much of a water view but relaxing. The staff was working their butts off. We had one little delivery problem with the food but the waitress owned up immediately and corrected it. Will absolutely go back and highly recommend people to try.

Sitting dockside is a pleasure here, with great views and friendly staff. The food is tasty and the drinks are flowing. The main concern is that the cost does not line up with the quality or quantity of the food and you end up paying more for less.

Beautiful setting. Food so so. Saw kitchen staff with no masks in plain sight, bartender went into the kitchen with mask down, walked out with mask on. The whole "compliance" is all for show. I hope not to get sick in 2 weeks. Spoke to the waiter as a human being to raise a flag, instead got a snarky comment. Skip this place.
