The 30-year-old is excited for his new challenge at Schalke: “I would like to be a leader both on and off the pitch. We will need to develop a completely new structure in the team and I want to play my part in that with my experience, so that we can win as many games as possible.”

Florian Flick

Flick signs a professional contract

The club have completed another piece of business in this position too. Florian Flick from the U23s, who has made the step up to the first team in recent weeks, signed his first professional contract on Tuesday (25/5). The Mannheim-born midfielder’s deal will also run for the next two seasons.

„Florian has seized his opportunity and proven his potential in the Bundesliga, after a solid season in the Regionalliga. His path to the first team underlines the value of the Knappenschmiede and our U23s,“ said Knäbel. „The addition of Victor Pálsson and Florian Flick’s contract extension mean that Rouven Schröder and his team have been able to find early reinforcements for two key areas in the squad.“
