Nostalgic classic.
I have no idea why I've never logged this film, as it's become tradition to watch it as a family every Christmas. I watched it tonight to introduce it to my housemate.
This is an obscure TV movie shot in 2003 and aired once, 11pm Boxing Day in 2005. A brilliant comedy set behind the scenes of a fictional cop drama, we chiefly follow Joe McGill, an extra with his first ever speaking part.
Set across the course of one shooting day, we also follow a menagerie of British actors playing line producers, 1st ads, costume, cameramen and... don't forget sound. Bill Nighy as a director on the edge is particularly brilliant as is a young Ben Withshaw…
"BA or Aer Lingus?"
"Lufthansa."
Delightful. Really great to see so many of the Green Wing gang together before Green Wing. Showed my parents a little bit of what production is like. Thanks Rob!
One of my favourite films, ever. So rarely shown, not released on DVD, incredibly hard to get hold of. Tom Courtenay, Bill Nighy, Tamsin Greig, Sally Phillips, Phil Davis, an incredibly young Ben Whishaw, all the best people. One of the most wonderfully funny, cynical, down-to-earth dramas about the unglamourous work of making TV (a bit like sausages, it seems). Poignant, silly, witty, great performances, laugh out loud moments. I love every minute of it and could watch it again and again.
