Team India opener Shikhar Dhawan on Saturday (February 19) took to Instagram to share an emotional video after meeting his son, Zoravar, after 2 years. Dhawan's son lives in Australia. Given the COVID-19 restrictions and protocols, the cricketer wasn't able to meet his son since 2020. Zoravar had travelled to Australia in August 2020.

"Two long years since I met my son Uske saath khelna, usko gale lagaana, baatein karna.. bohot emotional moments hain ye.. These are the moments jo humesha yaad rahenge," Dhawan wrote on Instagram.

The 36-year-old isn't part of the T20I or the Test team and will stay away from the game for at least one more month. He will return to the on-field action in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, where he will be representing Punjab Kings (PBKS). Since Dhawan is on a break from the game, he will get ample time to spend with his son.

The left-handed batsman was recently part of the ODI series against West Indies. He missed the first two ODIs of the series after testing positive for COVID-19. The senior batsman recovered from the infection before the 3rd ODI and played the dead rubber.

Since India play their next ODI in July, Dhawan will next don the national jersey after 7 months. The team management doesn't seem keen on changing the opening combination and he looks set to kick off the proceedings with captain Rohit Sharma in another 50-over World Cup.

Will Shikhar Dhawan lead Punjab Kings?

Meanwhile, Dhawan could make his return to the captaincy in IPL. He is one of the leading contenders to lead Punjab Kings (PBKS). He had joined the franchise for Rs 8.25 crore in IPL 2022 mega auction.

Apart from Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal is another strong contender to lead PBKS. The franchise is expected to make the final announcement regarding the next captain soon. The post was vacated after KL Rahul parted ways with the franchise.
