My Immortal is the most famous, notoriously bad fan fiction ever written. Based very loosely in the Harry Potter universe and featuring the blatant Mary-Sue protagonist Ebony (or often times "Enoby"), it reads like a detailed list of everything a fanfic author could ever possibly do wrong, only taken to exaggerated, horrifying extremes. My Immortal was originally posted to FanFiction.Net sometime in 2006, but was subsequently deleted by the FF.Net staff after causing a severe drop in the site's collective IQ. In fact, the fanfic is so unbelievably bad that many refuse to accept that it's real, insisting that the author was only trolling and that the story is really a parody. Regardless of the author's intent, My Immortal remains one of the most cringe-worthy, unintentionally hilarious, so-bad-it's-good pieces of literature the internet has ever produced.

I was lucky enough to read this when it was published on ff.net. As of today, it's been 16 years and it's just as terrible as I remember. I love it! #skrewprepz

On a serious note, the actual book is much nicer than expected. Great quality!

How could I give this anything other than five stars? 'My Immortal' will forever be one of the most infamously, so bad it's good stories in the history of the written word. As long as Harry Potter remains in the public consciousness, which I can never imagine it not, this story will be alongside it. Illustrating everything not to do, not just in a fan adapted work, but basic storytelling in general. Despite its flaws, and that by the time I finish reading it my brain hurts, I have most of the first paragraph memorized, which is more than I can say about even my favorite well-received books. That's how much it sticks with you.

However, my main reason for the review is this: The first story in this book is 'My Immortal,' written and published by Tara Gilesbie on FanFiction.net, beginning in March of 2006. The following three stories, 'My Immortal 2: Wake Me Up Inside,' 'My Immortal 2: Fangz 4 De Venom' and 'A Vampre Wil Nevr Hurt You' cannot be confirmed to be written by Tara.

The story we know she wrote has so many spelling errors and inconsistencies, that you can almost pick up her pattern. In fact, there are certain instances where it seems like Tara is winking at the reader, such as calling Sirius Black, Harry's 'dogfather.'

But the subsequent stories I listed take the errors to such an extreme that it comes across that it has to be a different person. There is an ellipsis that lasts thirteen pages in one instance, and that is just one of the tamer reasons why the sequels seems to be written by a troll(s). Part of what makes 'My Immortal' so endearing and keeps me coming back, is the idea that this was written with the utmost sincerity. It's difficult to believe while reading that the first time, but even after all this time, no one had come forward to take credit and has been confirmed as the real Tara Gilesbie.

The final two stories are written and co-written by Raven, who is Tara's friend and plays a role in the editing of the early chapters of 'My Immortal.' When Raven was helping Tara the spelling, grammar and cohesiveness of the story is better. But the plot is still nonsensical. Once Raven distances herself from the project, that is when the story truly becomes the train wreck it is known for.

Seasoned readers of the story will know about what unfolds between the two of them in the author notes and the consequences their relationship has on the story. Which, in a way, is just as interesting as wondering how this all came together in the first place.

I've read this fanfiction at least 10 times. And I've never been more satisfied to have this story physically in my hands so I can read it again.

It's ironically charming in the fact that it's so ridiculous you can't possibly believe it's real. The characters are all awful and essentially carbon copies of each other. But the terrible grammar and ridiculous things that these characters do will leave you with the best quotes to use. This fanfiction has made my work environment better by providing my co-workers and I with stupid things to re aloud while closing.

This book will inspire you to write better stories than this. But worst of all you may fall in love with Ebony by the end, just like everyone else.

Praise to our patron saint ebony darkness dementia Raven Way, who in her infrequent bouts of wisdom and foresight, fought against the dark lord with the help of her equally Gothic friends. Give us the strength to not wear foundation when our skin is pale already and to bask in the glory of Gerard Way. In Ebony's name we pray, amen.

This is the original story and its sequels. I had so much fun with friends back in the day reading this fanfiction. The cover needs work I'm gonna make it godawful and cringey goffick. I can't only read it in sections bc it really hurts to read with the terrible grammar.

This literary masterpiece truly defined the 2000's, nay. I say it defined a whole generation of gofficks (get it) and a generation of fanfic writers for the years to come. This truly teaches us what not to do and what to do with a fanfiction. Where we can cross boundaries and make new ones. Tara Gilesbie truly needs to be spoken in the same breathe as Shakespeare, Homer, and even Tolkien. My Immortal has truly changed my life for the better and my depression has been cured due this literary masterpiece. I guess you could say I have fallen in love with Enoby as everyone will eventually.

5.0 out of 5 stars Herrlich daneben

Wundervoll!
