Genealogical Society meets today

CASSADAGA — The next meeting of the Chautauqua County Genealogical Society will be Wednesday at the Cassadaga American Legion on Maple Avenue. Meeting will be at 6:30 and the program starts at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Todd Langworthy will present a brand new program titled: “Two of Fredonia’s Important Figures from the Past: Leverett Barker and Charles Mack — Connections and Comparisons”.

The Wednesday, June 19, meeting will be held at the Cassadaga American Legion on Maple Avenue. Meeting will be at 6:30 and the speaker at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Andrew Kolstee hit a “brickwall” while researching his Wheeler family. John Wheeler, his fourth great-grandfather (1806-1860) came from Oneida County and settled first in Gerry and later in Poland.

Forestville meeting

set for Main Street

development

FORESTVILLE — The plans for Main Street development in Forestville will soon become a lot clearer.

A design guideline presentation will be given on Wednesday, beginning at 6:30 p.m., at the St. Rose of Lima Hall, located at 11 Center St.

A week later, the regular monthly meeting of Imagine Forestville will be May 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Forestville Meeting House, located at 37 Center Street.

The meeting’s Guest Speaker is Dr. Katherine L. McKay, Professor Emeritus at the State University of New York at Fredonia. McKay is the Music Director of the New Horizons Band of Western New York and will be speaking about the band’s upcoming visit to Forestville on July 18.

Both upcoming meetings are open to the public.

Chicken barbecue Sunday in Brocton

BROCTON — The Brocton Fire Co. will hold a drive-through chicken barbecue on Sunday from noon until sold out. The drive through will be located at the fire hall, 80 Lake Ave. The menu includes half chicken, salt potatoes, baked beans and roll for $15 per dinner. There will be no presale tickets.

SINCLAIRVILLE — The Sinclairville Free Library invites the public to a gardening talk on Monday at 6 p.m. Master Gardener Pam Martonis will speak on the topic of “Gardening with Native Plants.” Participants will learn how to create a landscape that is easier to maintain and helps restore balance to the ecosystem. The program is free and open to the public.
