Government Bullies: How Everyday Americans are Being Harassed, Abused, and Imprisoned by the Feds Kindle Edition

Government regulations are out of control. They dictate how much water goes into your commode, and how much water comes out of your showerhead. They determine how hot the water needs to be in your washing machine, and how many miles to the gallon your car must achieve. Since the Patriot Act, your banking records, your gun registration, and your phone bill are easily accessible by government snoops. Mothers are arrested for buying raw milk. Families are fined for selling bunny rabbits without a license. Home and property owners are strapped with obscene fines, entangled in costly legal messes, and sent to federal prison, all for moving dirt from one end of their land to another. Unelected bureaucrats, armed with arbitrary rules and no need to back them up, stonewall and attack American citizens at every turn. The damage can be overwhelmingly taxing -- -financially, emotionally and even physically.

And who is being held accountable? Government regulation and red tape run amok in Washington, and honest, tax-paying citizens are the victims of an administration's misuse and abuse of power. Now, Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, takes an in-depth look at the legislation that is trampling the rights of ordinary citizens, strangling their ability to conduct private, everyday activities without egregious government interference. He highlights outrageous searches, seizures and arrests, and points to thousands of regulations that have been added to the books since Obama took office. Most importantly, he charts a direction out of this mess, and toward renewed freedom for all Americans.

These stories are of everyday Americans badgered and harassed by their own government -- -the very institution that is supposed to serve us all. This gross breach of our constitution is as frightening as it is real, and
Goverment Bullies is a call to action against it.

Rand Paul is to the point, pulling no punches. With reading his book it has become clear as to why we have so many problems with big government. Rand lays out the facts of various agencies and how it has gone to the point to make it clear as to how deep we already are in a totalitarian state and teetering on the edge of big government becoming a socialist power to rival East Germany. I can say this emphatically that this is a reality, As a Vet that served during the Cold War on the East German border (Fulda Gap) and psychically saw the wall come down. I watched that border for 3 1/2 years and the facade that we saw was self evident after the border opened and I was able to drive to the other side and see for real the affects of socialism first hand. Rand Paul sees what is going on in this country from Capital Hill, and what he reports in this book clearly paints a picture of where we are going. I used to be a Democrat, so I am not biased on my views on this issue. If you are a supporter of Rand Paul or not, This book is very informative and will to most bring better understanding of the issues in question. I always give everyone the benefit of the doubt, Give Rand the same and read the book and make your own judgements of what he tells you.

Much like Senator Rand Paul's first book, "The Tea Party Goes to Washington", I found this to be a quick, simple read. Unlike the previous book, I found myself getting angrier and angrier as I turned each page. It's hard to believe that Senator Paul was able to find so many stories over government run amok. From cleaning up purchased land, to fishing on the wrong side of the river bank, to an armed raid of an Amish farm, we see so many instances of overregulation and lack of common sense.

Senator Paul argues well that the answer isn't no regulation, just less. He introduces you to countless Americans who have been imprisoned and fined exorbitant amounts of money for minor infractions. People who might have gotten tangled up in some red tape, but certainly don't deserve to be treated like a murderers, rapists, and thieves.

As someone who used to teach English, I was disappointed to see so many typos in this book. Also, several times Senator Paul begins telling a story, stops it, and starts telling it over again a couple pages later. It isn't pervasive enough to take away from his message, but I would blame editors at Center Street for possibly rushing this book to the shelves rather hastily. Not enough sloppiness to reduce my rating, but certainly still prevalent.

This is a book well worth reading by anyone interested in politics. I fear that only some conservatives will fully appreciate it, but it's a book that any one with open eyes should be able to read and see why government can grow too big and interfere with personal freedom.

This book is a wake up call to all Americans on our out-of-control, unrestrained government. The book is filled with tragic stories of American citizens who are constantly being abused by their own government. If there is one thing to take away from this book, it's that big government is certainly no friend to liberty. This book proves that when government is allowed to grow large, out-growing the restraints that were originally put in place by our constitution, it does so at the loss of our freedoms. Rand gives some great insight into these issues, and offers up many solutions. We can not continue to allow our selves to be overrun by unelected bureaucrats. Rand has proved himself to be a leading voice in putting an end to this out-of-control government, and is a rising star in the Republican party. He's one of the few who has earned the peoples trust and would be a great potential presidential candidate in the future!

When I heard that Rand Paul had written a book, I wasn't very interested but thought I'd at least read the sample. I was hooked. This is exactly the sort of thing I wanted to see: real-life stories of government officials abusing their power.

Sometimes a government agency (many times the unelected officials) forgets that they are there to serve the people and instead feel like they are the ones in charge. The book is full of examples where honest, hardworking citizens have had their rights heinously violated without so much as a second thought. Some of the examples may be extreme but the point is: these types of things are happening.

I also appreciated that it wasn't just a 280-page rant, there is some good additional material, good source material (websites and the like), and some suggestions on how we can help stop this abuse. I think awareness and general indignation is a great way to start.

The book is captivating but it's not going to win any style awards. It did feel sometimes like it was also a means for Rand to be able to tell people what he has been doing, which can be a good thing. I think when a lone person is fighting the tide and is especially against mainstream media's opinions, they tend to just ignore him and not cover him at all (witness the shameful way the Republican party ignored his father, Ron Paul at all the debates and even the convention). A highly recommended book, I'm going to lend this to everyone I know who will read it.
