Can you recommend the best mobile hotspot solution for rural UK?

My wife and I are doing a 10 day tour by Campervan from Edinburgh to London (current plan is to do northumberland, lake district, peak district, cotswolds but open to any other plans or suggestions too)…

We will need to be working several hours a day need to work on the trip - does anyone have suggestions for a good hotspot + sim setup? I've looked around and haven't found a recommendation that works well - our phone hotspots are more spotty than a dedicated device. I've seen several rental services online but it's hard to know which ones are good.

Starlink

Easily the best in terms of speed/coverage, however it is also by far the most expensive. Over £300 upfront to get the kit (though you can get refurbished kit for a bit less), and then the monthly subscription is £70+ a month - more than even the fastest fibre broadband available in the UK. It certainly does what it's designed to and has its uses, but it's a premium product for a premium price.

I don't think there's anywhere in the UK you'd be so out of network that it's the only option. Just check coverage for your SIM before you travel and a hotspot should do you fine. You aren't doing high-latency gaming.

4/5G router and a couple of directional antennas would give you the best signal. Depends how much you are willing to spend but probably better than the starlink option. If it's short term could get a SIM for a single month. Using a router and built in antenna would be ok if the location has a reasonable signal too.

any recommended routers?

I have a TP link archer MR600, seems to be a fairly popular choice.

It depends entirely on the local infrastructure.

Have a look at OFCOM maps for cellular coverage

I usually go to Solent Spectacles for new glasses.

What on earth are you on about??
