Meet our London Marathon runner, Sam Hunt

On Sunday 21st April, Sam Hunt, Events Manager at NMBS will be lacing up her trainers and running an incredible 26.2 miles in the iconic TCS London Marathon in aid of CRASH.

Sam has already exceeded her fundraising target, raising over £5,000 in support of her industry charity, CRASH – donations that will go on to help people who are homeless, and children and adults with a life-limiting illness. Thank you Sam, we think you’re amazing!

Sam has loyally supported CRASH for 15 years, and we caught up to find out how the training is going, what motivated her to run in aid of CRASH, and of course, how she plans on celebrating this incredible achievement…

What motivated you to get into running?

My local running club were doing a Couch to 5K and some of my friends had joined the group, so I thought “why not give it a try”… I soon got the running bug! My motivation came from a desire for fitness, being able to be outside in the fresh air and having the opportunity to run whenever I wanted.

You have raised an incredible amount already, has anything surprised you about the fundraising task? Has it been easier or harder than you imagined?

I have received incredible support from family, friends and the construction industry which I am extremely thankful for. I was surprised how much money I could raise by selling off my old items on vinted, eBay and at car boot sales too!

What do you think is unique about CRASH?

CRASH, the construction charity, stands out for its unique focus on uniting the construction industry to support homelessness charities and hospice organisations with practical assistance on their building projects.

Can you describe the relationship between the charity and NMBS?

NMBS and CRASH have an excellent working relationship. We have supported CRASH for 15 years by raising money at our Annual Dinner Dance and Gala Dinner events. We also entered a team into the industry’s iconic Pavestone Rally in 2023, our team fundraised for 4 amazing charities at this event, including CRASH.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about signing up to a run or challenge in aid of CRASH?

For those considering a challenge for CRASH, I’d suggest setting clear goals, leveraging personal networks, and sharing the impactful work CRASH does to inspire support.

What’s your go to running soundtrack?

I have some incredible running friends who I train with, and ran Manchester Marathon with in 2022. With them by my side, I don’t need any running soundtrack as we talk non-stop!

How do you plan on celebrating once you have crossed the finish line?

Enjoy a nice meal and have a few drinks with family and friends, and reflect on my accomplishment and achievement.

Show Sam your support

You can support Sam’s London Marathon challenge by donating to her fundraising page and leaving a message of encouragement for those final few weeks of training. Good luck Sam!
