ORANGE – Orange Lutheran tight end Ethan Rae signed with USC in December but Lancers football coach JP Presley made sure to recognize the senior again Wednesday on the regular National Signing Day.

The senior’s tenacity simply couldn’t be ignored.

Rae is recovering from a torn ACL in his right knee. He suffered the injury in the Lancers’ playoff loss against Centennial Corona on Nov. 2.

For Rae, it was his second knee injury. He tore the ACL in his left knee the summer before his junior year and missed the 2017 season.

“Both (knees),” Rae said after the Lancers’ signing day ceremony Wednesday.

Rae (6-4, 240) hasn’t started jogging yet in his rehabilitation but remains upbeat about his future at USC.

His recovery from his first knee injury is a major reason.

“Ever since my left one and going through that surgery, (my knee) never felt better,” Rae said. “I know I’ll come back stronger. I just trust in the process, especially going through it once already and just seeing the results that can happen.

“I know if I stay committed to it, I’ll end up being stronger than before.”

USC would gladly welcome the comeback. The Trojans also signed St. John Bosco tight end and Laguna Hills resident Jude Wolfe, giving USC two of the top tight ends in the West.

Rae also has discovered another positive during his setbacks.

“It definitely showed me how much to appreciate the game and not take it for granted,” he said.
