I personally love this album but then again you either love Nickelback or you hate them.

A raw, grungetastic banger
Nickelback's debut LP is a blast. Yeah, really. It's very raw and Chad's singing is a bit rough, which takes some time to get used to, but it's a grower album for sure. There's a lot of fun and catchy riffs and there's no tracks I'd consider skippable. The band's worst qualities aren't really present here either, so it's more fun to listen than their later albums. If you're willing to put your preconceived notions and hatred for Nickelback aside, I say give this a chance, especially if you want something raw and grungey to listen to.Published

Revolutionary Album For The Rock World
This is one of the best debut albums I've ever heard. It's on the level of KISS's debut album and Slayer's debut also. While it has some tracks that are "good but not great," there are some AMAZING grunge rock songs that make Nickelback haters rethink their bias. Songs like "Detangler," "Window Shopper," and "Falls Back On" are great examples of rock songs that can be considered perfect. Every song on this album has a minimum of good, and the best is absolutely incredible. In my opinion, this is the second best album they made, only behind the absolutely incredible, 5 star album, "The Long Road."Long story short: Amazing album

I think I'll be attacked by the good music taste police for this, but this was the band before they got aurally castrated. The lyrics are piss poor but the riffs and singing sound like the first records by Silverchair and Stone Temple Pilots. Hard hitting and good big chunky (albeit dumb) riffs. This is fun and harmless enough but people will just rate it low/0.5 without even hearing it because it's yer Nickel Slack and they suck. Which, sure, with The Long Road they became the most watered down band ever and even rewrote their very own songs (listen to Someday the same time as listening to How You Remind Me). But this, the follow up and to a very lesser extent Silver Side Up each have some cuts that show Nickelback could have had an edge and been respectable.

Nickelback’s debut album has a Grungey sound to it. Chad’s vocals are a bit off, being rougher and more gravelly, but this suits the style. The production is rough but it works well, enhancing the heavy sound. The album is full of great tracks, full of energy and memorable riffs; it’s hit after hit. Nickelback are the cool band to hate due to their popularity, but it’s albums like this that got them to that level of fame in the first place.

So Nickelback was my favourite band as a teenager (yeah I had awful taste), and I recently decided to revisit the albums for nostalgia, cringe, and self-torture probably, and also to fill out the lower ratings on my RYM page.
First up is Curb, the album many Nickelback fans (including teenage me) would tell you that this was before they "sold out". It's funny because this mostly feels like they took little bits off Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Pantera who were pretty popular in the early 90's (and are all bands I would rather be listening to).
Nothing really stands out on this album. It's bland and boring but not offensively so, apart from Chad's singing. It sounds like Eddie Vedder singing with his mouth full, but with the emotion of a table lamp. That lack of emotion is a theme through this whole discography.
Little Friend: The distortion stuff is cool, but I'm not sure if they did that on purpose or because it sounds like this album was recorded with no budget.
Pusher, Detangler, Curb, Where?: Meh
Falls Back On: I found this one really annoying and repetitive
Sea Groove: this one was my favourite back as a teenager for reasons I can't understand
Fly: Meh
Just For: This is the ideal anthem for fedora clad, friendzone-dwelling "nice guys". It might have not been intentionally been written that way but that's what it comes off as because once again, no strong emotion coming across in the singing.
Left, Window Shopper, I Don't Have: Meh.
It's not as bad as later albums (Dark Horse), but it's still just below mediocre. They probably wouldn't be as hated if they stuck to this style, but they also wouldn't be as rich.

Ugh. There really isn't anything "offensive" about this Nickelback album but man...
this is pretty boring to me. It's also grunge-like which isn't necessarily my forte. But even I can appreciate Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam every once in a while. While having a grunge-feel to it, the guitars were similar to pop-punk bands in a sense that they are relatively simple rhythms. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't suit this music very well and adds more to the blandness to the album.
There really is nothing I found appealing about Curb. Honestly, I might prefer poppy Nickelback! I'll explore them as objectively as I possibly can in the future to see if their mostly universal hate is warranted.
