The pancake balls are the best breakfast item in the city. Be sure to try all the flavors as they are all phenomenal.

We visited Katalina’s on the last day of our vacation on the way to the airport, and by far, it was the best vacation meal we had. The restaurant and its patio was completely full on a Sunday afternoon, and the staff warned us that the food would take 30 minutes to arrive at our table. Since the charming al fresco area was full, we chose an inside table. The food was well worth the wait. We shared the Nutella pancake balls with bacon and the Mazatlán pork and egg sandwich. In contrast to chain restaurants where the food can have a prepared-at-a-commissary taste, everything here had a home-cooked quality. We immensely enjoyed the meal, and if we have the good fortune to return to Columbus, we will remember to return to Katalina’s.

This was a cute place with friendly service. My friend got the French toast which we didn’t think tasted that great but the pancake balls were amazing! I would go again just to get another order of those. The place is small so doesn’t have much seating but if you’re lucky to get a seat I think you’ll enjoy the ambiance!

Went here for first time with family. I ordered the “award winning” Mazatlan Slow-Roasted Pork & Egg Sandwich. It was fabulous! My wife had the Hens-in-a-Basket, which were very good as well. We loved the Sweet and Spicy Bacon. The pancake balls were interesting but there are much better options on the menu. It is obvious they take the time to prep the food to a high expectation. We will be back.

Nice table outside. I ordered the breakfast tacos and my friend got avocado toast and eggs. The avocado toast spread (4 thin slices of toast with some seeds on the top) might have been half of a small avocado. My chorizo breakfast tacos had a small piece of chorizo, a small slice of avocado and some sauce. The price for both with small drinks was $43.00 before the tip. Not at all worth what we had. Better food and fair prices at other breakfast places.

Vibe 5 ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Vibe and environmentally aware. Love’s the decor of colored chalk meanderings. Too cold to sit indoors on a May 8 morning even though we were the first to get to this cozy place! Luckily, we moved outdoors in the Sun under the quaint colored umbrellas. A limited menu was offered due to staffing...a pity since I could not have the OKONOMIYAKI😭 Disappointed with the purple craze hash... Although I was delighted in the purple potatoes, these were undercooked barely fork tender, and not at all steaming hot 😔 My daughter took hers home to cook them as left overs. Nice array of picante seasonings provided on the table. The rest of my Hens in a Basket order was good. Eggs could be runnier sunnier, nested in the sourdough toast, but the vegan sausage was stellar, especially sandwiched in the cut out rounds of the sourdough toast. Now, the never ending coffee was a lovely feature of this breakfast, especially having almond milk....vegan choice😍 The Breakfast Chick Wich looked good and my daughter seemed to enjoy it. The food is well presented in cheerful paper mini trays and wax paper with actual silverware, a total plus ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for being green. I’d like to come back and try more of the entire menu despite the sticker shock when I saw the bill since I ordered price blind. But, it was a thoroughly pleasant breakfast out of town visiting my graduating daughter.

Delicious brunch! Try the Nutella Pancake balls & BLT. Fun atmosphere with a few inside seats, but plenty of tables outside on the porch.

My wife and I usually aren't in a mood to try something different. For example, we prefer re-runs of classic television shows rather than new fashions. When it comes to food, we prefer pizza to sushi. But when I was researching places to eat during our week-long visit to Columbus, Ohio, Katalina's caught my attention. Best breakfast in town, most critics said. "A little cafe with lots of local goodness," it advertises. A funky, collegial open all-day cafe known for down-home breakfasts, soups, salads and sandwiches. So we decided to give it a taste. Located in a renovated and remodeled 100-year-old gas station at 1105 Pennsylvania Avenue, east of Michigan Avenue, in the Harrison West neighborhood, Kathleen Day's pride and joy is open from 8 to 3 daily and offers locally roasted coffee and Mexican-style breakfasts that provide something different from traditional eggs and bacon. How about a Breakfast Chick Sandwich with a southern fried, buttermilk-brined Shagbark corn chip coated chicken breast topped with a sunny-side up egg, local Amish cheddar cheese and a dash of French's Red Hot served open-faced with the house's famed purple haze hash? My wife was delighted with the Mexican French Toast, brioche battered and covered with Mexican pure cane sugar, sprinkled with a touch of New Market Spices Tamarind sugar and topped with powdered sugar, then served with the house's original thick-cut sweet 'n spicy bacon and pure maple syrup. I couldn't resist Katalina's award-winning breakfast tacos, three local Koki's white corn tortillas with New Market Spices-infused chorizo, scrambled eggs, tomatillo, avocado, cilantro, queso fresco, Snowville crema and pico de gallo with Elote Mexican Cob Corn. Katalina's also has another location at 3481 North High Street. You never can get enough of a good thing.

This place is great. Very original, wonderful funky decor, friendly staff, quick service, vegan and vegetarian options. I love it. We were in Columbus for a short vacation and we ended up eating here every morning. Can’t recommend it enough!

Located in a 100 year old gas station Katalina’s is known for peace, love and pancake balls...plus some excellent Latin inspired breakfast dishes made with quality local ingredients and none of the pretense involving spots that usually advertise such. “The Little Cafe with Lots of Local Goodness™” per owner Kathleen Day, open 8am till 3pm daily, guests can expect lines on weekends for “homemade food with attitude” and portions that more than justify a fairly modest price point. Trendy but not exactly “hipster,” college kids mingling with young families and folks in their sixties, seating outside proves ideal during good weather with items ordered at the counter arriving in an average of perhaps ten minutes. Using locally-roasted Coffee, free refills hot or grabbed cold from a fridge, Brunch for many begins with Tacos topping Koki’s Blue Corn Tortillas with Housemade Chorizo and Snowville Creamery Crema while the Breakfast Chick ’Wich comes heated by Frank’s and open-faced with Cheddar plus fried Eggs. Not about to skip a “Huge! Mazatlan Slow-Roasted Pork & Egg Sandwich,” true to its name and bursting with flavor, Katalina’s famous “PurpleCraze Hash” seems fairly basic for something advertised so heavily, though the same cannot be said of Pancake Balls made like Æbleskivers piped with seasonal Pumpkin-Apple Butter and sides of real Maple Syrup plus Sweet ‘N’ Spicy Bacon.

Visiting Columbus just for the day from 4 hours away and, as we always do, looking for something local and unique. Actually heard about this restaurant in an article about restaurants in historic gas station buildings. And so we came to check it out. There is seating both inside and out, but being a bit on the chilly side in November, we opted for indoor seating, which is a bit snug. Order at the counter and then find a place to sit. While waiting for our order, we enjoyed the decor, much of which are the walls, tabletops, and even chairs covered in graffiti...you are encouraged to add your own artwork or words of wisdom or just a signature wherever you want, using the markers on your table. For our lunch, we split a Stoplight Salata (adding the Southern Fried Chicken Breast) and an order of Avocado Toast. The salad was plentiful, the chicken gobsmackingly delicious, and the Tomatillo Dressing awesome. The avocado toast was tasty, especially with the roasted pumpkin seeds atop. Happy to enjoy the boxed water with our lunch. Since we saw that Katalina's sells some sauces in bottles, we inquired about the Tomatillo Dressing and were disappointed that it was not available to purchase. Masks were required indoors except when seated and enjoying your meal.

I was invited to this place by a friend and let me tell you that it was one of the best breakfast I had in a long time!! It’s was a Sunday morning. As we walked in the line was long but moved fast.made ours orders and find a table right away to seat but sometimes I was told it can be packed and hard to find a table. Our food didn’t take too long to get to us and it was soo good !!!! Every bite of every dish was perfect. From the tacos the avocado toast to the pancakes balls.

Katalina’s has a good variety of selections for brunch, most of which look tasty. I had the Avocado toast with spicy eggs.

TL;DR: Fortunately, good food can be found at so many places, but good customer service is not guaranteed, probably unlikely, at Katalina’s. Preface: I was bringing my parents here to celebrate. Similar to so many others, COVID took a toll on our family. After months of working endlessly and without knowing what was going to happen, my dad was offered an excellent job opportunity. I just moved to Columbus and read reviews of places to check out, and Katalina’s came up. I was looking for dog-friendly spaces and Katalina’s came up as an option as long as the dog was friendly and leashed. FYI we have a gentle Shih Tzu that has been around babies and never even attempted to harm anyone. Encounter 1: We have never been to any Katalina’s so we didn’t know the process. My dad goes in asking for a table, employee #1 curtly responds saying he has to find his own table, decide what we want to order, then come back in to place the order. Encounter 2: We are seated outside and our dog is on a very short leash. Employee #2 comes out and says “we don’t allow dogs”. I respond by saying I read online that they do, she responds curtly with “that policy is 2 years old. We had a bad experience where a dog bit an employee. You can wait out here and one of you can come in and order your food to go and wait here for it to be ready” and walked away. FYI, I totally understand having a policy because of a bad experience and that maybe not everything on the Internet is updated with their new policy. That is not made dining here such a bad experience. It’s what followed and everything that accumulated that did. Encounter 3: I go inside with a purpose to ask if the other Katalina’s in town has the same policy. After simply saying “Does the other Katalina-“, Employee #3 cuts me off saying “All Katalina’s have the same policy”. So I decided to go with what they initially offered which was to order the food to go and wait at our table for it be ready. BUT, that wasn’t the end of it. Encounter 4: Employee #4 comes outside and says “We don’t allow dogs”. I inform him that we were already told that and that we placed our order to go and were just waiting for it be made. He states that we can’t even sit and wait for our food on their patio, but that we have to get off the patio (which we were already at the corner of, not in the center of the crowd) and wait for the food. This is when my parents and I all lost it. We informed them that they should updated their website and all he can say is “We have updated our website. You must have read something on Trip Advisor”. Not an apology or “Oh yeah, since another employee told you you can wait here at the table, that’s fine”. So while my parents and I are forced to wait on the pavement, which by the way, many employees saw but none made an effort to let us know there was a bench to sit at in their parking lot, we debated asking for a refund to simply leave. But my mom is diabetic and was getting very hungry since we had planned our morning around this so we decided to just wait for the food. When employee #4 brought out the food, that’s when my dad and I really let him know how incredibly poor the service had been - that the employees had been CONSISTENTLY rude, that they told paying customers to stand on the pavement to wait for their food, and that we did not intend to ever return to Katalina’s. That’s when employee #4 starts to backpedal and say “You could have set on that bench” gesturing to the bench in their parking lot and starts issuing an apology. We were no longer interested in an apology because the truth is that it took us calling them out and letting them know we would never return for them to show any remorse. This just shows the characters of the employees at Katalina’s. Update: We were able to go to a restaurant just 2 blocks up the road called Saucy Brew Works. They were contrastingly incredibly kind about our having a dog with us, and just throughout the entire encounter. Food was good there!

Dear Meghna, It's true that we have had several unfortunate incidents with dogs as well as do not currently meet the Health Dept.'s restrictions for allowing dogs on our patios. I double checked that our policy was clear on all major online venues so I am curious to know where you may have seen the outdated information? We're sorry we could not accommodate your dog and hope you will accept our apologies if our staff mishandled the situation in any way. I'll add this reply to the same review you left on our Yelp site as well as our Google Reviews.

Just had a fabulous breakfast at katalinas. You can sit on the patio if the weather is warm enough and they will bring you your food after you order inside. The pancake balls are of course very good - as everyone will tell you. The avocado toast was fantastic and the hens in a basket were delicious. We’ve sort of avoided going because we heard there were often lines and a long wait - but we are so glad we did and it was very quick and efficient service. Ordering take out or being willing to eat on their patio - there were no lines.
