Jessica Herdman at University of Winnipeg | Rate My Professors
Herdman is nice, but we didn't get assignments back in a timely matter, & she was overly critical when marking. It's hard to gauge how to approach assignments with extremely late or non-existent marks to compare with. Her exam was two 4-page essays, which don't work for a 3-hour exam time slot. Her expectations are too high for a 2000-level course.

the course was a writing course. there was homework everywhere and needed to purchase a book and one of those online platforms for more assignments.
Dr. Herdman is a great prof. She is passionate about what she teaches and truly cares about the success of her students. Lectures and course material are interesting and relevant to current social issues. Participation is important.

I took Indigenous Christian Encounter with Professor Herdman. This course contained many heavy topics that often left me in tears. Jessica made it easier to digest as she is very respectful, caring, and empathetic. This course has changed my perspective and helped me understand how colonialism has affected my life as an Indigenous person.

Seemed like she really cared. Loved the book and online resources she chose, for helpfulness and affordability. Workload was manageable. I liked that she gave deadlines for different aspects of the final project to make sure we were all on track. Forgiving with extensions. Great feedback, really helped my writing.

I took this class in the 2018S Semester. The class was engaging and I really enjoyed her teaching style. She did an amazing job and I still think of the things she taught us. She was empathetic and kind, and I always appreciated her feedback. The grading criteria was always clear. I was and am still grateful I had the opportunity. 10/10.

This was a frustrating class. Lectures (combo of prerecorded and live on Zoom) went well beyond the 150 min per week that was allotted on the university's timetable. Very difficult to reach her outside of class. She takes a super long time to grade assignments and tests, so you won't get feedback in time for your other assignments. Heavy workload.
Professor herdman has potential to be a great professor, unfortunately she assigns tons of reading & lecture material to the class every week where its almost impossible to manage with other classes. She is almost completely inaccessible outside of class and takes weeks - months to get any assignment marks back.
