She is the winner of four National Film Awards, Seven Filmfare Awards, ten Filmfare Awards South, four Kerala State Film Awards, and two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. Her musical euphonious is not just ruling the Hindi songs but several other languages too.  So let's look into the life and career of our music queen. 


Shreya Ghoshal Parents 

Hailing from a Bengali Hindu family in Murshidabad of West Bengal, Shreya was born on March 12, 1984. She is the elder child of Bishwajit Ghoshal and Sarmistha Ghoshal. While Shreya’s father Bishwajit is an electrical engineer and works for the Nuclear Power Corporation of India, Shreya’s mother has done post-graduate in literature. Shreya’s younger brother Soumyadeep Ghoshal is an engineer and is a Music producer (as mentioned on his Twitter account).

Shreya Ghoshal married her childhood friend and long time boyfriend Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya on February 5, 2015. The duo tied the knot after dating each other for 10 years. Their wedding ceremony was held in Mumbai in a traditional Bengali ceremony.

On May 22, 2021 Shreya Ghoshal and Shiladitya welcomed their baby boy Ghoshal gave birth to a baby boy Devyaan Mukhopadhyaya.


Shreya Ghoshal Education 

Shreya’s parents found her musical talent in her early childhood days and they started her musical training at the age of four. Her most of her childhood was spent at Rawatbhata, a small town near Kota, Rajasthan and she did her middle school till 8th from Atomic Energy Central School No.4 in Rawatbhata.

Later in 1997, she shifted to Mumbai with her family after her father’s transfer to  Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. In Mumbai, Shreya completed her schooling from Atomic Energy Central School in Anushakti Nagar. Later Shreya enrolled to study science at Atomic Energy Junior College. 

However, In her college days, she realized her passion for music and dropped out from her college. Continuing the studies she took admission in SIES College of Arts, Science, and Commerce in Mumbai and did her major in English. 


Shreya Ghoshal Music Training

Shreya started her training at the age of 4. Shreya’s mother encouraged her in following her passion and even enrolled her in Music classes. Her mom Sarmistha even accompanied her on Tanpura and both mother and daughter duo used to riaaz on mostly Bengali songs.

When Shreya was 6 years old, she started her formal training in classical music. She also got trained from  Late Kalyanji Bhai for 18 months and later continued her musical training with Late Mukta Bhide in Mumbai. Later Shreya also started her training in Hindustani classical music. Her first stage performance was made at a club's annual function.


Shreya Ghoshal Awards

In her childhood days one of the first awards she received during competitions was  All India Light Vocal Music Competition, New Delhi, organized by Sangam Kala Group, in Light Vocal group at sub-junior level. When Shreya reached the age of 16, she took part in various reality singing competitions, including  Sa Re Ga Ma.

In the year 2000 Shreya won Zee Tv’s  television music reality show Sa Re Ga Ma (now Sa Re Ga Ma Pa).

Honored for her amazing contribution in the music industry, Shreya Ghoshal is also the first Indian singer to have her wax figurine in Madame Tussauds Museum. Along with this Shreya has also been featured on  Forbes list of the top 100 celebrities from India five times.
