From my experience as a k-12 student at Birch Wathen Lenox, I can positively say that Birch is a vibrant, safe, and supportive community. I have always felt challenged yet secure in my classes and am confident I will be able to succeed in college with the preparation I have received. Furthermore, Birch has garnered a close-knit and familial type of community that has allowed me and all students to form close bonds with peers and teachers that I will miss as I move on to higher education.
Through the recent changes of administration, Birch has become an even more energetic community, with an unrelenting dedication to the success and learning of students. The effort of the school to create a space filled with activity and academic stimulation is clear.
Overall, my time at birch has been a rich and fulfilling experience for me that I will always look back on with fond sentimentality and I can't wait to visit in the years to come.

I've loved my experience here so far, the relationships and connections that I've been able to create with my teachers has been incredible.
My daughter transitioned seamlessly from our excellent local public school to this school last year. She meets each day with enthusiasm and vibrancy as a member of this community of learners and educators. Kids and families are warm and welcoming. The Faculty and Administrators are caring, thoughtful and accomplished in their fields. This infuses their teaching styles with warmth, authenticity and expertise. They act as partners in co-creating lifelong learners and are committed to education for its own sake rather than creating a culture of credentialing and hyper-competitiveness. So many exciting things are happening at each division level; it's fun to be a part of as a parent, as well as, for the students. Traditional academic foundation? Yes, as expected! More importantly she is getting to know her own voice and self-worth by seeing the impact of her ideas and passions come to fruition through initiatives like clubs, student government, independent study & intersession courses. :)
Excellent school all around and getting even better with new admin, Strong teachers diversity of clubs excellent student-to-teacher ratio. willingness of school to create new relevant programs
The best gift any parent can give their children is a good foundation for their educational future done within a safe environment. At Birch our children academically grow in an environment that is very nurturing. As parents that are employed full-time, it was very important for us to place our children in a setting that could provide them with a strong academic base, a setting that our children could feel like they belonged, and most importantly, a setting where we knew our children would be safe. We absolutely love BWL!!
The new Head of School, Bill Kuhn, is amazing. He is committed, forward-thinking and bringing the school out from the dark ages. He is trying everything, so there are a ton of new programs going on. It will take some time for the school to figure out it's footing and who its student body is. Right now they are taking everybody they can get to reverse the enrollment slide, so there is a very wide range of students in each grade including more behavioral issues than I'd like.
The enthusiasm is back which is great, but teachers need to remember they are teachers, not fellow high school students. There is such a focus on building enthusiasm that it seems the kids know how to manipulate the teachers and get away with alot. However, the academics are good and the teachers care. There appears to be a bit of favoritism though and the school is starting to get a little bit more of a popularity culture than it used to have. Overall, we are optimistic and hope BWL makes it.

I loved birch. I went for 13 years and I don't think I could've pictured myself going anywhere else.
This is my first year here. I think some of the teachers can be a bit odd or inappropriate at times, but other than that, it seems to be fine.
Significant changes at Birch!
My daughter has been attending Birch since kindergarten. Over the years, I have noticed some subtle changes. However, when I visited the school recently, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it had changed considerably for the better. The school has implemented many new programs, such as an independent study program for any student who wants to apply, a robotics team, and an entrepreneurship program. Additionally, the school offers several clubs and sports to choose from. The small class sizes allow my daughter to learn on an incredible one-to-one basis. Teachers can provide her with work tailored to her individual needs and assist her with the work. Moreover, the school invites speakers to talk on several topics that many of our children face today. I am glad that we decided to keep her at Birch!!! It's refreshing to see my daughter want to come to school every day and put her best effort forward, with the support of her teachers.

So incredibly happy to be apart of this amazing community. Everyone is so kind and it’s a very tight knit community. The academics are great and sports games are so much fun to attend or even be apart of. The best choice I ever made was coming here!!
I found that Birch Wathen Lenox provides academic excellence in a nurturing environment. It focuses on advancing the individual.
We love BWL! The academics are rigorous yet the faculty are nurturing. The theater program is absolutely top notch - the productions are fantastic. The Head of School is bringing wise, kind and thoughtful leadership to the school.
Excellent school. Very small class sizes in an extremely nurturing environment. Diverse student body. All the kids seem very happy to be here and are friendly and polite. Traditional curriculum, with an emphasis on character and integrity. The new leadership is excellent and this school is headed in the right direction.
A GEM OF A SCHOOL!!! I have 2 children who attend, and they could not be happier. Amazing teachers who care, administration who love what they do, great curriculum, and small class sizes. The community is diverse, warm and everything you want in a school.
The administration at the school does not live up to the school's pillars: Integrity, Loyalty and Civility (which was a huge disappointment to our family). The only pillar they like is greed. It's become a school for misfits whose parents have more money than common sense.
When it was my first year, after a couple days I felt part of the community. Along with the education being great. Teachers are very open to meet after class times.
Great school with a very friendly environment. The teachers are all very kind and supportive. Since it's a smaller school instructors give you more personalized attention which I really benefit from.
Super inclusive and tight knit community. I have always felt comfortable and welcomed at birch. The teachers are super understanding and friendly and it truly feels like a family at BWL.
Over my 5, going 6 years at Birch, I've found that the sense of community and loyalty that I've experienced has been amazing. The grade size ranges from 30-55 kids, so it's a very tight-knit community. As for the current heads Bill Kuhn and Geoff Fisher, there is nothing bad I can say about their first year in office. The school spirit and overall sense of community had never been higher, and it was extremely nice being able to see them in the halls and be able to talk to them, you really feel like they're connected to the community.
As a long-time student attending Birch, this school has become my second home. When I get greeted by teachers every morning, I come to school excited. Our student life is nothing more than fulfilling with our school spirit. Our teachers are there to guide us through the workload and help us understand the material. Overall, Birch is a great school to be a part of, an even better community.
