Also was Lee Hazlewood hier abgeliefert hat .......mir fehlen die Worte. Neben seiner unverwechselbaren Stimme grandiose Songs und fantastische Texte.
Hatte mir schon die Doppel CD "The Complete MGM Recordings" zugelegt. Aber diese Compilation ist legendär.
Bei den Songs " Back On The Street Again" und " Your Thunder And Your Lightning " stellen sich mir die Haare im Nacken hoch.

Oktober 2017
Lee Hazlewood ist eine Legende, seine großen Stunden erlebte er mit Nancy Sinatra in den 1960-ern mit Nancy & Lee sowie in der Spätphase seines Schaffens mit Werken wie "For Every Solution There's A Problem", "Cake Or Death" und dem Reunion-Album "Nancy And Lee 3". "Poet, Fool Or Bum" erschien 1973 auf Capitol, "Back On The Street Again" vier Jahre später bei der EMI. Beide Alben gehen mehr in Richtung Country mit leichtem Popeinschlag - also das, was man heute als Americana bezeichnet. Der Mann war ein Genie, ergo sind auch diese Alben ein "must have" für jeden Hazlewood - Fan.

IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT
CALIFORNIA COUNTRY/ROCK MUSIC WITHOUT
HEARING LEE HAZELWOOD YOU'RE WRONG.
THIS GUY WAS PURE MAGIC! HE IS THE
UNDISPUTED KING OF THE UNDERGROUND
SOUND THAT EXPLODED WHEN HIS WORK
WITH NANCY SINATRA SURFACED WITH SONGS
LIKE "THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKIN'"
(WHICH HE WROTE) AS WELL AS "SOME VELVET
MORNING" etc. HIS BOLD , DEEP VOICE IS
ENTRANCING ON THIS 2 LP TO 1 CD PACKAGE.
HIS LYRICS ARE UNDENIABLY GREAT , ODD ,
EDGY , LIKE BUTTER & HONEY ON HOT WAFFLES.
RIGHT THERE (OR BETTER)THAN KRIS K. & ALL
THE OTHER GIFTED WRITERS OF THAT ERA !
ON TOP OF THAT , HE HAD PRODUCED DUANE
EDDY ON LOTS OF RECORDINGS THAT MADE AN
IMPACT ON THE WHOLE MUSIC SCENE; HE EVEN
WROTE "HOUSTON" FOR DEAN MARTIN. I MEAN
THIS GUY WAS SO AHEAD OF HIS TIME ON TAPE,
PHIL SPECTOR STUDIED HIS RECORDING TECHNIQUES.
(HE USED TO MIKE DUANE EDDY'S GUITAR AMP
IN A GRAIN SILO!!!)THE SONGS PRESENTED ON
THIS DISC GIVE THE LISTENER A GLIMPSE INSIDE
THE HEART & MIND OF A TRUE GROUNDBREAKING
TALENT WHO I THINK IS VERY UNDERRATED IN
THE EVOLUTION OF MODERN MUSIC. JIMMY BOWEN
(THE LEGENDARY PRODUCER OF SINATRA , DEAN
MARTIN & HANK JR. & GARTH BROOKS ETC.)
PRODUCED "POET,FOOL,OR BUM" IN LONDON(1973).
LEE HAD ALREADY LEFT THE STATES & WAS
ROCKIN' UP SWEDEN. BOWEN'S LUSH STRING
ARRANGEMENTS ARE MIND-BLOWING AROUND LEE'S
VOICE & LYRICS. HE EVEN COVERS TOM WAITS'
SONG "MARTHA" WITH HIS SOMBRE SENSE OF
HUMOR ; "POET,FOOL OR BUM" ,"THE PERFORMER",
"BACK ON THE STREET AGAIN", "FEATHERS",
"NEW BOX OF PEOPLE","SMOKEY PUT THE SWEAT
ON ME" & "THINK I'M COMING DOWN" ARE STAND-
OUT TRACKS, BUT THE WHOLE CD IS AMAZING IF
YOU LIKE ONE OF A KIND CHARACTER/ARTISTS
LIKE I DO. LEE HAZELWOOD WAS BRILLIANT &
HIS RECORDS ARE SWEET & WARM AS "SUMMER WINE".
LISTENERS WILL LOVE THIS CD & ARTISTS,WRITERS,
& PRODUCERS HAVE A LOT TO LEARN FROM THIS MAN.

Hazlewood Rarities
Rezension aus den Vereinigten Staaten vom 10. April 2007
Like many others my age, I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to Lee Hazlewood or his music while he was in the semi-limelight, but came to know and love his music much later on. Several years ago, I chanced to hear a compilation of covers of Lee Hazlewood songs called Total Lee. I liked it and became hooked almost immediately. Since then, I have acquired most available Hazlewood recordings and have become somewhat of a connoisseur of his dark humor and ribald connotations.
With the recent acquisition of the double reissue of Poet, Fool, or Bum/Back On the Street Again, I am well on my way to completion of my Hazlewood CD collection. Both of these records (here combined) were released only in Europe in the mid-70s, so listening to this is to hear what he was doing at a time when many thought he had disappeared.
It took me a couple of listens to really like this, but I eventually came around. This is far more country than pop. While these are not his best records, there is a lot here to like. My favorites are: Poet, Fool, or Bum; Kari; Feathers, Nancy and Me; Back On the Street Again; Your Thunder and Your Lightning; Suddenly Tennessee, Dolly and Hawkeye, and Dolly Parton's Guitar. Hearing once again how lyrically clever Hazlewood can be, I can see why so many alt-rock musicians look to him for inspiration.
If you have yet to hear this bunch of Hazlewood rarities, give it a listen. In addition to the CD, the buyer gets an informative booklet. At the low price on offer here, you can't go wrong.

Laid back work of genius
Rezension aus dem Vereinigten Königreich vom 13. Juni 2011
Both the albums reissued here are amongst Lee Hazlewood's best - 1973's 'Poet, Fool Or Bum' and 1977's 'Back On The Street Again' - and if nothing else great value! Musicwise, it's what you'd expect from the first album's opener 'Poet, Fool Or Bum' with it's echoes of 'Summer Wine', through to covers - Leonard Cohen's, and a pretty superlative version of Tom Waits' 'Martha', and not forgetting Lee's own tunes - the aforementioned title track, 'Kari', the 'Performer', and 'I Think I'm Coming Down'.
The second album's highlights have to be the wonderfully laconic and archetypal Lee Hazlewood - 'Suddenly Tennessee', 'Dolly And Hawkeye' - which sounds like it should've been written by Nick Cave, and the frankly horny country-funk of 'Your Thunder And Your Lightning'. As well as pretty much of the songs. A wonderful package - and with extensive sleeve notes which give a good overview of what the late great Barton Lee Hazlewood was up to post-Nancy.
