The 2023 European Championships in Acrobatic Gymnastics were officially opened on Wednesday in Varna. The start of the competitions for men, women and youths in the Palace of Culture and Sport was given by the Vice President of European Gymnastics Michel Boutard and Bulgarian gymnastics legend Yordan Yovchev.

"I am sure you will enjoy the great forum in Varna. Thank you to everyone behind the organisation of this wonderful championship. I wish success to everyone," said Yovchev, a participant in six consecutive Olympic Games, four-time Olympic medalist and Secretary General of the Bulgarian Gymnastics Federation.

"We at European Gymnastics are proud to welcome you all to Varna for the 31st European Championships. Thank you to everyone - gymnasts, coaches, judges, members of the technical committee and, of course, the enthusiastic fans. Thanks to all of you, the sport of acrobatics continues to develop and receive more attention. Enjoy the unique moments and keep the memories of Varna forever," said European Gymnastics Vice President Michel Boutard.

The European Championships will last until October 22. Entrance for spectators is free.

Competitors from 21 countries are taking part in the championships in Varna. A total of 105 acrobats are in the fight for the medals at the championships in men's and women's events, and 144 in the juniors. Bulgaria is represented by a total of 16 athletes.
