Downsides to "-allow_third_party_software" in CS2?

Help

Hello, I'm trying to record some of my CS2 games with OBS' Game Capture, but it says I need to input the launch option "-allow_third_party_software". What are the downsides to it? I've tried to research this on my own, but there are hardly any sources from Reddit or Steam if they are not from many years ago. My biggest concern is: if it's the same as "-untrusted" (?) or if it'll affect any part of my matchmaking.

I mainly just queue Premier.

it did had an annoying popup in csgo every time you press matchmaking and even kicked you out of the lobby to show it (not present in cs2 thanks gaben), and it says that it might lower your trust factor, but noone knows if it really does so no downsides basically

I think it only really affects your "Trust Factor" a bit.

Is Trust Factor even enabled in CS2? I keep getting dogshit games against new accounts despite having 500+ games and 16 years on steam..

u/Cyph3r010 avatar

I can't really tell you to be honest.

One game I'll have people with actual steam accounts and next is some bozos with like steam 20 year badge and like 1 game only which is CS.

I get a full spectrum between 300 hour accounts that are 10 years old and obviously just shitty players with wallhacks and 5000 hour accounts that are just very good players

12-16k rating in my friend group

I've had a pretty clean experience in Cs2 in terms of who I get queued with, and notice a huge drop in quality when queuing with some friends who can be toxic or just get reported for being really bad.

I think trust factor is not working right now.

Any evidence to support this apart from testimonies from the playerbase?

Steam support FAQ on Trusted Mode

Would I get banned for injecting into Counter-Strike 2 if I run in normal (not Trusted) mode? No. However, over time the Trust Factor system will learn whether certain patterns of software injection are more likely to lead to cheating. So, your Trust Factor may be negatively affected by running Counter-Strike 2 outside of Trusted mode.

This shit makes no sense to me. Just detect the damn cheats or don’t…

Ah yes the infamous If cheating == true {ban user}.
this community sometimes... smh

This has nothing to do with "trusted mode".

Not sure, I don't have any.

Not saying that is permanent but you will most likely play against cheaters more likely than not.

I've used it since release of cs2 and so far I have not noticed any downsides

Quote from value

Does normal (not Trusted) mode guarantee a penalty to the Trust score or segregation from Trust mode players?

No. Playing in normal (not Trusted) mode does not guarantee a Trust score penalty and Players in both modes are not excluded from playing with each other. However, the Trust learner will eventually incorporate all of the new information in calculating Trust scores.

Source

been using this from the start, never had any problems with it, same amount of cheaters as a non "-allow_third_party_software"

how would you know if youve used it from the start

If you're looking to avoid dropping trust factor, NDI works alot better then display capture for me.i followed this guide for setup https://www.halfman.digital/blog/ndihx-for-csgo-streaming

It might lower your Trust Factor.

I use display capture on OBS to record my CS games. You could try that if you want.

u/GreatMasterDebator avatar

No downside as far as I'm aware, just a formality.

u/UnKn0wN31337 avatar

It could essentially make you play with and against cheaters more often than you usually do.

Can you post this once and not under every comment that mentions trust factor?

was hoping for anyone of them to have some sort of evidence.

they should be going after cheaters instead of people using recording software, and also come out with a stance on various 3rd party programs like overlay crosshairs and whatnot. do you have to inject or modify valve-owned code to receive a vac-ban? or is using an amplifier to hear footsteps considered an unfair advantage, or keyboard and mouse macros

If you stream screen instead of app it does not require the launch option btw

u/ozzler avatar

Do not do this. It adds input delay into your gameplay.

why not just use display capture and avoid the potential damage to your trust factor

u/ozzler avatar

This adds input delay.

Every CS streamer & YT content creator uses it & they don't have any problem with it....

u/ozzler avatar

I doubt everyone does because people will use second pc setups with capture cards.

Not all but majority of them does, not everyone got double pc due to money & some other reasons, U don't NEED to have double PC if u can't afford it.

the downside is that someone might accidentally stumble upon you streaming cs2

I've been using it from day 1 of the limited test, no problems so far. I had to turn it off when I wanted to play CSGO, but otherwise I don't see a reason to turn it off.

Tip: Just remove the "-" and not the whole command, and it will turn it off. You won't need to type the whole thing or look it up again if you want to record and forget what the actual command was.

If you are playing Faceit (haven't tested it without Faceit AC open so would need to test without) it automatically adds this to your launch options. Do the "sys_info" command and look at the very top of its spew and you will see all of the launch options CS2 started with. A little sneaky "-allow_third_party_software" will be at the very end if you didn't already manually add it yourself.
