It is the oldest monument left to us by the Arabs and the best preserved grain storage building on the peninsula.

the front of the corral del carbon The Corral del Carbón was built in the 14th century by Yusuf I, at the height of the Nasrid period, and was used to store goods for sale there, as well as to house the merchants who passed through the city.

Later, in the 16th century, the Christians adapted it for theatrical performances.

The building consists of an entrance pavilion that leads to the inner courtyard surrounded by galleries and rooms.

The entrance door is awe-inspiring and promises even greater treasures and beauty inside. However, it contrasts with the simplicity and lack of ornamentation inside.

The interior rooms have been extensively remodeled to accommodate offices and shops.

Opinions about Corral del Carbon in Granada
Imagine what life was in Nasrid-era building
14th century building which was used for coal storage and as a lodging house for merchants. It is the only surviving Nasrid-era building of its type in Spain.

For me the best part is the entrance. You should stop there for a while to appreciate all the details of its decoration.

Once inside, there is not much to see, but you can imagine what life was like in that Alhóndiga in the Nasrid era. It is free and it takes little time to see it.
