Product Description
Based on John Steinbeck's novel of two brothers, twin sons and the twisted woman behind their tragic fates.
Amazon.com
Bringing to life the bestselling novel by Nobel Prize winning author John Steinbeck, this TV adaptation faithfully follows the history of the Trask family from the Civil War to World War II. A recreation of the biblical story of Cain and Abel, East of Eden follows estranged half-brothers Adam and Charles (Timothy Bottoms and Bruce Boxleitner) as they reunite after the death of their father, Cyrus (Warren Oates). They live together on their father’s land, constantly quarreling, when they meet the manipulative and beautiful Cathy Ames (Jane Seymour), a prostitute with a dark past. The theme of good versus evil runs rampant throughout and entangles itself in the Trask family legacy through each generation. Jane Seymour’s brilliant portrayal of Cathy through three decades, from young runaway to aging mother, earned her a Golden Globe. Fans of Steinbeck and Seymour alike will be pleased with this retelling which won an Emmy for best art direction and Golden Globe for best miniseries. This three-disc set features a biography on John Steinbeck, exclusive interview with Jane Seymour, and cast filmographies. --Amanda Faddis

Jane Seymour in the best performance of her career. -- Chicago Daily Herald
OPRAH: I think there was no other Kate. In my mind, you personified all that she was and captured that in a way that I still marvel. JANE SEYMOUR: I think it was the best role of my career. I felt that it just happened...somehow it came through me. -- The Oprah Winfrey Show (interview)
One of the best mini-series ever. -- EInsiders.com
Watching Seymour chew up every available bit of scenery is a joy -- The Baltimore Sun

This story is about the Trask family's generations of brothers, from the Civil War thur the World War I! Parts of the movie will mention the story of how it was with Cain & Abel ,who were also brothers, that are in the Bible, and some of this movie will remind you of parts of their story from the Bible, where Good overcomes Evil, and when Evil overcomes Good!
It starts out with half-brothers Adam and Charles Trask! Adam who is the good, and kind brother, is his father's favorite son, whereas Charles is not, so Charles is very jealous of Adam being the favorite! Their father wants Adam to become a soldier, and for Charles to remain on the farm, and be a farmer. Adam does not want to go, but Adam ends up being a soldier, while Charles ends up being a farmer.
When Adam comes home from the war, him and Charles become brothers again, and when the beautiful prostitute Cathy ,arrives beaten and bloody and helpless on their door step; here comes BIG trouble for Adam and Charles, their lives will never be the same!
This movie will keep you going, you never know what the evil Cathy is going to do next! I really loved the character that Lloyd Bridges played, he was awesome! And I loved Soon Tek Oh's Lee! And my favorite brother was Charles(Bruce Boxleitner), who you find out is not all that bad afterall! And I felt sorry for Adam who did not deserve to be treated so badly, he deserved to be treated so much better!
I wished we could have found out what happen to Charles in the movie, after Adam left the farm to go to California! I so loved those emerald green mountains, and those beautiful valleys of California! There was some breathtaking scenery in this movie! I also like the way Adam tried to help his sons, Caleb and Aaron, eventhough he made some of the same mistakes that his father did!
Only negative is one of the disk was not as clear as the others..the picture was bleary..
But it only lasted about30 seconds
This 1981 TV miniseries rectifies this. We get the whole story, which covers three generations of Trasks and Hamiltons, from the Indian Wars to World War I, from Connecticut to California. The two characters who form the moral and philosophical center of the story, Sam Hamilton and Lee, are restored to the narrative.
Jane Seymour gives a star-making performance as Cathy, depicting to perfection the eerie combination of sensual beauty and cold hostility to human feeling that makes this character so fascinating. Sam Bottoms triumphs over James Dean in the role of Cal Trask, one of Cathy's abandoned sons. Lloyd Bridges and Soon-Tek Oh are magnificent as Sam and Lee, the two philosophers (both missing from the James Dean film). The rest of the cast is uniformly excellent.
This was only broadcast once, and until now was only briefly available in uncut form on a slow-speed VHS that was in print for a few months. Now, at last, it's on DVD, and while the picture quality is not very good, perhaps due to the source, at least the whole movie is there on a durable format. Perhaps the source materials were in such poor condition that Acorn didn't have the resources for remastering. Normally, I'd give it five stars, but I'm disappointed enough in the video quality to knock my rating down a notch.

Sono soddisfatto dell'acquisto e lo consiglio a chi volesse rivedere il telefilm passato sulla televisione italiana negli anni ottanta. E' in lingua inglese(americano)
