Costa Rica’s calling
It’s the destination on everyone’s lips. Plum in the middle of North and South America, Costa Rica acts as a bridge between the two continents. As such, the landscape offers up a real pick and mix of must-sees ranging from tropical beaches through to soaring volcanoes by way of dense rainforests.
A Garden of Eden
No day’s the same in Costa Rica – one day you can be clambering through cloud forests, and the next you’ll be delving into hidden valleys. And because a quarter of the country is protected, you’ve got national parks, wildlife havens and nature reserves on tap.
Tropical shores
The key to this place is its name, which translates as ‘Rich Coast’. Holidays to Costa Rica open up all the soft sands and swaying palms you’d expect from a place dubbed paradise on earth. To be precise, there are more than 300 stretches of beach spread between its Pacific and Caribbean coastlines.

Travel advice
Best time to go to Costa Rica
It’s hard to pigeonhole Costa Rica’s weather as it varies greatly between regions. But generally speaking, there are two main seasons – a wet spell from August to November and a dry run from February to July. That said, the northern Pacific coast escapes much of the rainfall that other areas encounter so you’ll find it warm and sunny here for most of the year, with 11 hours of sunshine a day and average temperatures hovering around 26-33 degrees. Be sure to put on extra suncream between April and March when it gets really hot – thermometers can reach 28-35 degrees. To experience Costa Rica at its tropical best, consider going between August and January – that’s when it’s the most green.Passports & Visas
As a British citizen, you don’t need a visa to enter Costa Rica but you must have a valid passport. For the most up-to-date passport and visa information, visit www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/costa-rica/entry-requirements.Don't forget to arrange your travel money and insurance before you go.
