Fremont High Schools: U.S. News 2024 Rankings From Best To Worst

CALIFORNIA — Fremont's public high schools are among the best in the country, according to a new ranking Tuesday from U.S. News & World Report.

In the 2024 Best High Schools list, California ranks 7th among U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Among the 1,652 schools ranked in California, 121 landed in the top 5 percent nationally, and 579 were in the top 25 percent.

Rankings for Fremont Unified School District high schools range from 11th best in the state to 561.

The top ranked high school in Fremont is Mission San Jose High School, which comes in at number 11 in California and 93rd in the nation. The school's graduation rate is 95 percent, while 85.7 percent are considered college ready. MSJ's Overall Score 99.47/100.

Next comes American High School, which comes in at number 39 in California and 314th in the nation. The school's graduation rate is 97 percent, higher than Mission San Jose, while fewer are considered college ready at 65.4 percent. Although 314th in the nation may sound disappointing, the school's Overall Score is 98.22/100.

Coming in next is Irvington High School, at number 44 in California and 337th in the nation. The school's graduation rate is 95 percent, while 66.7 percent are considered college ready. Irvington's Overall Score is 98.09/100.

The fourth highest ranked high school in FUSD is Washington High School, which comes in at number 202 in California and 1,462 in the nation. The school's graduation rate is 94 percent, while 40.6 percent are considered college ready. Washington's Overall Score 91.72/100.

John F. Kennedy High School is 1,064 in California Rankings and 4,222 in the nation. The school's graduation rate is 93 percent, while 26.2 percent are considered college ready. JFK's Overall Score 76.09/100.

Here are the top 25 public high schools in California in 2024:

State-by-state performance is based solely on which states have the largest proportion of schools in the top 25 percent. Massachusetts once again leads in the ranking, followed by Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland and Florida, respectively.

The top high schools have students who score exceptionally high on math, reading and science assessments, as well strong performance among under-served students. High school graduation rates and college readiness among graduates are also measured.

U.S. News also ranked magnet, charter and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) schools.

Four California high schools made the top 25 in the national STEM rankings: Whitney High School in Cerritos (#8), Lynbrook High School in San Jose (#12), Monta Vista High School in Cupertino (#19), and Saratoga High School in Saratoga (#22). Pacific Collegiate Charter in Santa Cruz was named one of the nation's top 25 charter schools, placing 17th.
