Freedom High School Reviews
Rating 3.59 out of 5 695 reviews
As I–a student previously in a military school on the small island of Guam–assimilate into Freedom High School, I am absorbed into its' heavy population of people in which elicited my best and worst experiences amidst moving into a new school. I am embraced with the diversity of people where I am able to connect to others who are relatable, yet also others who have perspectives different from mine. For example, as a Filipino, I appreciate the Aloha Club: a community of Asian/Pacific-Islander students who share their cultural heritage. However, although the people are diverse, I initially found the large amount of people intimidating as a new student. I felt isolated not knowing or having anyone approach me. Hence, there needs to be a program initiated by the school who welcomes students who face these challenges amidst a vast school- whether one is new or not. The program should offer students in the school to participate in helping others easily feel known.
Within my enrollment at Freedom High School in Oakley, CA. I struggled a bit in paying attention to my classes, but I think I can blame this on the social distancing aspect. I think the best part of my experience was getting to know people and finding my passion through the engineering department. The worst parts are the overall personality of the students, a lot of students don't care to do good in school and it provides a sometimes unsafe environment on campus. The school has had ups and downs, the sports are alright, I enjoy watching, but some downs could include the fact that the engineering department got cut due to the lack of a teacher being able to teach our school. I wish the school was able to provide a bit more information on the classes you should take if you have college in mind, at first it's all sort of on yourself. Freedom High School isn't the best but it also isn't the worst, I enjoyed my enrollment and don't see myself at any other school.
I transferred in during my junior year due to the fact that I moved houses and now lived closer to there, and I was welcomed as I already had friends there. Some teachers are very nice and you can easily talk to them, as well as keep a great balance in keeping you on your toes with your work. They're fairly encouraging and supportive, as long as you do your part in doing your work and behaving well. The administration is also chill for the main part, getting their job down as well as interacting with the students. Some can be rude though, as if they don't even want to be working with students or even be there. The options of classes are also nice, having different interests that I can learn and improve at. I do wish they had a culinary class though. Overall, as long as I stay out of trouble and drama with students, it's pretty chill.
