Tim Duncan’s marriage is officially over after a judge afforded he and his ex-wife a “secret hearing” this past Tuesday in order to avoid the expected crush of photograph hounds and autograph seekers, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Duncan’s 12-year marriage with his college sweetheart, Amy, came to an end after District Judge David Canales granted the divorce at Duncan’s lawyer’s office during the judge’s lunch hour.
Canales had never been asked to do this type of secret hearing before, but he said it isn’t uncommon. Notice of the decision was nowhere to be found within public records.
“I don’t see it as doing a special favor for the sake of the favor,” Canales said. “These folks were involved in a very private matter and it was mainly for privacy.”
Amy filed for divorce this past March and the unease lasted for five months. The delay was, in part, due to the Spurs’ playoff run where Duncan was understandably apprehensive about answering questions regarding his personal life.
