A Guilty Conscience won best film at the 42nd Hong Kong Film Awards on Sunday.

The courtroom drama, directed by Jack Ng Wai-lun and starring Dayo Wong Tsz-wah and Louise Wong Tan-ni, was the city's first film to earn over HK$100 million at the box office.

Despite Wong losing the best actor award to veteran Tony Leung Chiu-wai for his role in the crime drama The Goldfinger, Wong said "the result was even better" as the film snatched the top award. Leung, who won best actor for the sixth time, delivered his acceptance speech via video.

Actress Carina Lau Kar-ling, accepted the award on behalf of Leung, and praised her husband as "a great actor." The best actress award went to Jennifer Yu Heung-ying from In Broad Daylight in which she played a journalist.

Cheang Pou-soi won the best director for the first time for the thriller Mad Fate, while Nick Cheuk Yick-him, son of deputy chief secretary Warner Cheuk Wing-hing, took the best new director award home for Time Still Turns The Pages.
