RIP
Last of the Cearns/Pratt era. All downhill from then. Made a few rickets, but they all generally ran the club well, much better than today. Oversaw, perhaps, the golden era of West Ham.

Yes.
Perhaps guilty of being unambitious but I always thought their heart was in the right place and they never sold Upton Park did they?
RIP.

Re: Martin Cearns
Martin was resonsible for me being able to get a season ticket in the Chicken Run (1981:chin:). we didn't have anough vouchers (used to sell lottery tickets to get comps in the West Side). He was my dads company bank manger, my dad called him on a Friday, he said to make sure the application forms and what vouchers we had were on his desk by 9am Monday morning and he would sort it. Come up with the 5 tickets we needed.
RIP Martin..

Re: Martin Cearns
I remember at the time not loving the Cearns family because it seemed they held the purse strings too tight.
What I wouldn't give to have sober, dignified people like them in charge now.
The end of an era.

Re: Martin Cearns
Yeah, short arms and deep pockets and all that but looking back they backed Johnny Lyall to sign a goalkeeper for a then world record fee and a teenager for a then world record fee.

For the record (and as stated) the post you referenced H_R was off-topic, not abusive.
