Alphabittle is a male unicorn pony and supporting character in the My Little Pony Generation 5 film My Little Pony: A New Generation and subsequent Generation 5 media. He is a resident of the wooded unicorn village of Bridlewood and owner/bartender at the Crystal Tea Room establishment. In Family Trees Pt. 2, he is revealed to be Misty's father.

He is called Alphabittle Blossomforth in merchandise and the hour-long special My Little Pony: Winter Wishday.

Development and design[]

Alphabittle Blossomforth concept art by Celia Kaspar

Alphabittle was designed by character artist Celia Kaspar.[1] During the early production phase for A New Generation, he was originally envisioned as "the blind sage of the Unicorns, living in a cave on the outskirts of Bridlewood".[2]

Alphabittle shares his first name with a G3 Earth pony mare and his last name with another G3 Earth pony mare and a G4 Pegasus mare.

Depiction in A New Generation[]

In the film My Little Pony: A New Generation, Alphabittle appears as the owner and bartender of the Crystal Tea Room, a dining establishment in the unicorn village of Bridlewood; he also plays betting games as a side business and never loses. In their quest for the three Unity Crystals, Sunny Starscout and her friends (disguised as unicorns) approach Alphabittle for the Unicorn Crystal. Sunny challenges Alphabittle to a contest for the crystal, wagering the Pegasus Crystal against it, and Alphabittle accepts the challenge. He chooses a Dance Dance Revolution-like game as the contest, which typically requires three wins, but Alphabittle agrees to surrender the Unicorn Crystal if Sunny can beat him just once.

Alphabittle easily wins the first two rounds, but with some advice from Pipp Petals, Sunny beats him on the third round and wins the contest. When she accidentally drops her unicorn disguise, an angry Alphabittle declares their contest invalid and demands the Pegasus Crystal, but Hitch Trailblazer is able to orchestrate his and his friends' escape by exploiting the unicorns' extreme superstitiousness. Alphabittle follows the group and gets involved in a three-way confrontation with Queen Haven and the Pegasi. When Sunny and Izzy join the Pegasus and Unicorn Crystals together, expecting magic to return to Equestria, nothing happens, and a disappointed Sunny returns the Unicorn Crystal to Alphabittle.

Later, Alphabittle follows Izzy Moonbow to Maretime Bay to convince her to come back home, and he gets swept up in Sprout's destructive plot to wage war against unicorns and Pegasi. In the ensuing battle, Alphabittle protects his critters from Sprout's tank, and Queen Haven saves him by pushing him out of the way of the tank's rampage. After the destruction of Sunny's lighthouse home, Alphabittle puts aside his prejudices to make peace with the Earth ponies and Pegasi, causing magic to return.

Depiction in Make Your Mark[]

In the hour-long special My Little Pony: Winter Wishday, Alphabittle appears celebrating Wishiehoof with his fellow unicorns. When the Mane 5 arrive to join in the festivities, Izzy (greeting Alphabittle by his full name) briefly engages him in a game of charades.

In The Jinxie Games, Alphabittle is shown to have invited Queen Haven to his tea shop, with the two engaging in several romantic acts (to Pipp and Zipp's dismay).

In The Manesquerade Ball, Alphabittle attends the eponymous party, and watches alongside Queen Haven as Sunny and her friends perform their unity dance.

In Family Trees Pt. 1, Alphabittle is first seen talking with Queen Haven. When Haven suggests that he set up a tea shop in Zephyr Heights, Alphabittle declines, stating that he needs to remain in Bridlewood "just in case". The two are then led by a group of Breezies to their night market, where they encounter Sunny and her friends (except Misty, who has just vanished). In Family Trees Pt. 2, Alphabittle reveals to Queen Haven that he stays in Bridlewood in the hopes that his long-lost daughter returns, showing her a photo that reveals Misty is his daughter. Soon after, Misty joyfully reunites with him.

In Father of the Bridlewood, Alphabittle tries to reconnect with Misty by taking her for a day of activities that includes everything she used to like. Unfortunately, Misty does not remember any of the activities, and no longer emjoys them. After Misty confesses this to Alphabittle, the two decide to start their relationship afresh. Alphabittle also arranges for Sunny and her friends to make up a room for Misty at the Crystal Brighthouse, and also requests that she call him once a week.

In Roots of All Evil Pt. 1, Alphabittle has his cutie mark stolen by Opaline. In Roots of All Evil Pt. 2, he joins everypony else in singing in support of Sunny, and regains his cutie mark upon Opaline's defeat.

Depiction in Tell Your Tale[]

Alphabittle makes several supporting and background appearances in the 2D animated YouTube web series My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale, which is set after the events of A New Generation. In Clip Trot, he appears watching and dancing along to the Mane 5's ClipTrot video of the Pony Hip Hop. In On Your Cutie Marks, he represents Bridlewood for the first Equestria Games since the three tribes reunited, encouraging Sunny alongside Queen Haven when the ponies' competitiveness gets the better of them. In One Trick Pony, he attempts to train Rufus in bartending. In Foal Food, he teaches Sunny how to make Izzy's favorite holiday cookies.

In Mare Family Mare Problems, Alphabittle is revealed to be in a romantic relationship with Queen Haven, creating tension with her daughters Pipp and Zipp Storm. When Haven invites Alphabittle to join the three of them for the Mares' Day activities Pipp and Zipp had planned, he unintentionally ruins every activity, causing Pipp and Zipp to snap at him in anger. When Haven admonishes her daughters for their behavior, they apologize to Alphabittle, and they end the day on a positive note.

In Nightmare Nightmarket, Alphabittle finds himself having to restore Misty and her friends after magic glitter turns them into foals. In Friday Night Food Fight, he tries to help Misty by calling off the eponymous food fight, but is covered in food for his troubles. He then reveals that Misty is actually responsible for starting the tradition.

Merchandise[]

Toys of Alphabittle Blossomforth include the 1-inch figure that comes with Izzy Moonbow in the Mini World Magic Compact Creations Bridlewood Forest set, the 1-inch figure that comes with 21 other figures in the Mini World Magic Multi-Pack, and the figurine that comes with 9 other figures in the My Little Pony My Busy Books set by Phidal.

Personality[]

Alphabittle is portrayed as very competitive and overconfident, appearing to take delight in besting other unicorns in betting games and winning prizes from them. He is also initially very prejudiced and distrustful toward other pony races, as demonstrated when he immediately turns on Sunny upon discovering she is not a unicorn despite being cordial to her moments earlier. Unlike most other unicorns living in Bridlewood, Alphabittle is not perpetually mopey, but he is just as superstitious. By the end of A New Generation, Alphabittle starts to move past his Earth pony and Pegasus prejudices, and he even warms up to Queen Haven over time, eventually pursuing her romantically.

It is later revealed that Alphabittle feels much guilt for losing Misty, and initially overcompensates in his attempts for them to reconnect. After they reach an agreement, Alphabittle becomes less overbearing and willing to let Misty have her space.
