The Free Guy cast features a great ensemble of talented actors audiences certainly recognize from previous roles. Directed by Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy, Free Guy follows the story of Guy, an ordinary Joe living in Free City. Guy has a mundane life as a bank teller, always getting the same exact coffee order, always wearing the same exact clothes, always meeting his best friend in the same spot, and never deviating from his routine. But when he sees the girl of his dreams, it startles him out of his rut, and he starts to change things up.

Soon, Guy learns that he's just an NPC in Free City 2, a Grand Theft Auto-style video game that's about to be destroyed, and it's up to him to save himself and the residents of Free City. The meeting of the real world and an artificial, computer-generated one is a premise that's been used more than once in movies. But the Free Guy universe executes it better than almost any other movie thanks to its blend of surprising heart and genuine laughs. Credit goes to its talented ensemble cast of familiar faces for striking that balance.

Ryan Reynolds as Guy

Ryan Reynolds as Guy in the movie Free Guy.

Ryan Reynolds is Guy, the lead in the Free Guy cast. He is always ready with a helping hand and his catchphrase: "Don't just have a good day–have a great day!" But deep inside, it nags him that he hasn't found someone to love yet and when he randomly encounters Molotov Girl, everything changes for him. Reynolds remains currently one of Hollywood's biggest actors, best known for playing the titular character in the Deadpool franchise. He can also be seen in Life, Mississippi Grind, rom-coms Definitely, Maybe, and The Proposal, and the ill-fated Green Lantern.

He's also done some high-profile voice roles, voicing Pikachu in Detective Pikachu and Guy in The Croods movies. After Free Guy, he picked up roles in the Netflix movies Red Notice and The Adam Project, a cameo in the Brad Pitt movie Bullet Train, and the Apple TV movie Spirited.

Jodie Comer as Molotov Girl/Millie

Jodie Comer as Molotov Girl in Free Guy.

Jodie Comer pulls double duty in the Free Guy cast, playing both Molotov Girl in the game and computer programmer Millie in the real world. She's infiltrated the game to gather dirt on Antwan, the CEO of Free City's publisher. Free Guy is Comer's first major movie role, but she's gathered a loyal fanbase for her impressive work on TV, including playing Villanelle on the acclaimed series Killing Eve and Elizabeth of York in The White Princess. She briefly played Rey's mother in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. After Free Guy, she appeared in the Ridley Scott historical drama The Last Duel with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

Joe Keery as Keys

Joe Keery In Free Guy

Joe Keery rounds out the trio of main characters as Walter "Keys" McKeys, a brilliant game developer and Millie's former business partner who is currently working for Soonami. When Antwan threatens to shut down the game, it's up to Keys and Millie to figure out how to stop it from the inside. Audiences should recognize Keery from his role as bully-turned-fan-favorite Steve Harrington on Stranger Things. Kerry has also had roles in films Spree, Slice, After Everything, and Molly's Game. He'll next be seen in Stranger Things season 5.

Taika Waititi as Antwan

The CEO and founder of Soonami, Antwan is as corrupt and arrogant as they come. Waititi is a triple actor-writer-director threat, having directed movies such as Thor: Ragnarok, Thor: Love and Thunder, and Jojo Rabbit. Notable acting roles include What We Do In The Shadows, Green Lantern, and The Suicide Squad. He also voiced Korg in the Thor movies and IG-11 in The Mandalorian.

Lil Rel Howery as Buddy

Buddy is Guy's best friend, far more cautious than the adventurous Guy but incredibly loyal. He works as a security guard at the Free City Bank. Howery is best known for his roles as Rod in Get Out and for starring in films like Bad Trip, Tag, Bird Box, Fatherhood, and Judas and The Black Messiah. After his role in the Free Guy cast, he appeared in movies as varied as Deep Water and Luck to Bromates.

Utkarsh Ambudkar as Mouser

A fellow game developer at Soonami, Mouser is torn between his friendship with Keys and his desire to please Antwan. Ambudkar is known for his roles in TV shows The Mindy Project, White Famous, Brockmire, Never Have I Ever, and Mira, Royal Detective. After the Free Guy cast, he picked up roles in the Netflix musical biopic Tick, Tick... Boom! and the 2022 romantic comedy Marry Me. He also has a recurring role on the TV show Ghosts.

Free Guy Small Roles

Ryan Reynolds in Free Guy

Camille Kostek as Bombshell - A buxom NPC who keeps picking jerks to date but empowers herself to be more after Guy gives her a pep talk. Kostek has appeared in I Feel Pretty, Wipeout, Fashionably Yours and Love, for Real. She also hosted the reality show Dancing with Myself.

Britne Oldford as Missy - The barista NPC at Free City's coffee shop. Oldford is best known for her roles in American Horror Story, Skins, Ravenswood, Hunters, The Flash and Blindspot. She also played Fei Hargreeves in The Umbrella Academy on Netflix and Genevieve in Dead Ringers on Prime Video.

Matty Cardarople as Gamer - The real-life gamer behind Channing Tatum's avatar. He still lives with his mom. Cardarople is known for Selfie, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Archibald's Next Big Thing, and, most recently, Reservation Dogs.

Destiny Claymore as Art Nerd - A Soonami developer who is the lead on designing Dude. The Free Guy cast is Claymore's first and only significant role.

Mike Devine as Office Johnny - A responsible (and slightly aggressive) beat cop NPC in Free City. Free Guy was Devine's first role. He went on to appear in Reynolds' 2022 Christmas movie, Spirited.

Free Guy Cameos

Free Guy Ryan Reynolds & Jodie Comer

Free Guy also sports a significant number of cameos, including actors who appear in person, including

Channing Tatum as in-game character - Tatum appears in two extended sequences as the in-game avatar for Matty Cardarople's gamer's character. Tatum is best known for the Magic Mike and Jump Street movies. In 2022, he starred in two movies, the military dog movie Dog and the romantic comedy The Lost City.

Chris Evans as himself - Evans appears very briefly in the third act in a surprise cameo. His split-second cameo is a nod to his iconic role as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Evans most recently appeared in the Apple TV movie Ghosted.

Alex Trebek as himself - Trebek appears in a posthumous cameo in the film. Trebek is of course best known as the longtime host of Jeopardy!

Video Game Streamers - For fans of video games, and particularly streamers, there are several that appear in the Free Guy cast in one way or another. These names include Jackseptticeye, Ninja, Pokiman, DanTDM, and Lazarbeam.

Lara Spencer - Lara Spencer is the co-anchor of ABC's Good Morning America and she appears in a cameo role in the Free Guy cast as herself.

Hugh Jackman - A fun cameo for Ryan Reynolds fans is Hugh Jackman. He appears in a role in the game as the voice of a game character in an alley (played by Patrick Vincent Curran). He is who gives Molotov Girl the address she needs. Of course, Hugh Jackman is best known for playing Wolverine in the X-Men movies and will appear with Reynolds in Deadpool 3 for the MCU.

Tina Fey - Tina Fey is also in the movie in a voice-only role. However, she is not in the video game world, but the real world. She is the voice of Keith's mother, as she vacuums in the background while he tries to play the game. Fey is best known for her role on Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock.

John Krasinski - John Krasinski also has a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo, and it is also a voice role. He voices a character silhouetted in the game who comments about Guy and the other NPCs in the game.

Dwayne Johnson - One of the biggest names in the Free Guy cast to appear in a small cameo role is Dwayne Johnson. He was one of the most identifiable though, because his voice is known to almost anyone who watches movies. He was bank robber #2, who Guy accidentally shoots. Of course, he was best known as The Rock in WWE before becoming one of Hollywood's biggest stars. He appeared with Ryan Reynolds in Red Notice in 2021 before getting his own superhero role in Black Adam in 2022.
