It looks like a couple of people may just be voting against the hit singles, I suppose either out of spite or because they got sick of hearing them everywhere in the mid ‘90s and are still not over it.

Apparently side two are people's least favorite side.

Not Even the Trees might be the band’s best song. Crazy how many votes it’s getting!

Great album that I generally play all the way through. "Hold my Hand" was getting airplay on my favorite FM station (KFOG) 6 months before they blew up and every other station started playing it. I saw them open for Toad The Wet Sprocket in 94 or 95. They played this album front to back and one cover song.

I was surprised to see the lack of love for "Drowning" in the poll. Nearly at the top (or bottom). Definitely one of my favorites on the album. Scary how those lyrics still resonate today. I saw an interview with Darius Rucker way back in the day where he discussed why he wrote that particular song and the Songfacts page for "Drowning" offers additional insight.

Solid album all around though and I'll be at their Bay Area show in July.

Is this even an album that was conceived of as or really divided into sides? I’d think this was far enough into the CD era artists and producers weren’t really thinking that way when sequencing tracks?

Lyrics of “Drowning” are good, but just not among my favorite songs on the album, musically.

I voted for "Be With You" because I find the vocal annoying! :shh:

I still think of it as having cassette sides.

Love that it quotes Bob Dylan though and has Dan Marino in the video.

Weirdly enough, I've picked up a couple of Hootie albums in bargain bins recently and really enjoyed them but I still haven't heard Cracked Rear View. Much to my surprise, given that it completely passed me by, CRV was a decent sized hit in the UK though they never managed to gain much in the way of singles success here.

Looking forward to following the discussions. :righton:

Hey Vinyl Man Another bloody Yank down under...

Only Want to Be With You (pulling a whole verse straight from someone else's song, really?!) and, because I can't really remember anything about them, Running from an Angel and Look Away.

I think I bought it without having heard a note. I was just impressed with what I'd heard about it. It spent most of 1994-95 quite high in my rotation, but I don't think I've played it since then! Be that as it may, I really liked it at the time although I was also aware that several of the songs sounded a little too much like each other.

Yeah, they were everywhere with multiple hits from this album. I still enjoy those songs, now also carries additional nostalgic appeal, just hearing that voice and melodies takes me back
