Indiana track and field men finish 5th, women 12th in Big Ten Championships

Indiana track and field traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan this weekend for postseason competition at the men’s and women’s Big Ten Championships.  

The men finished fifth, tallying 66 points, and the women 12th with 14.33 points. Nebraska won the men’s title by a margin of 50 points, totaling 136, while Minnesota claimed the women’s crown, scoring 131 points.  

On Friday, junior Sean Mockler led the Hoosiers with a third-place finish in the men’s hammer throw. His toss of 66.78 meters earned Indiana 6 points. 

In the men’s 10,000-meter run, graduate student Skylar Stidam earned fourth and scored 5 points with a time of 29:34.32. 

On Saturday, freshman Garrett Messer wrapped up the men’s decathlon with 6,956 points to claim a sixth-place finish. He earned the Hoosiers 3 points and slotted himself eighth in Indiana’s program history. 

In the women’s high jump, senior Mahogany Jenkins cleared 1.65 meters to tie for eighth place.  

On Sunday, Indiana closed the weekend with 15 podium finishes across men and women, including an individual champion. 

Stidam won the men’s 5,000-meter run in 13:56.43 to win his first Big Ten title and score 10 points. 

In the men’s pole vault, two Hoosiers combined for 6 points — junior Tyler Carrell cleared 5.16 meters to finish fifth and sophomore Riley Johnston vaulted 5.01 meters to secure seventh. 

Graduate student Grayson Rolen added an additional 2 points in the men’s high jump with a season-best height of 2.11 meters. 

In the finals of the men’s 800-meter run, junior Camden Marshall claimed second in 1:48.17, adding 8 points. 

Junior Martin Segurola finished eighth in the men’s 1,500-meter run finals in 3:48.11. 

In the women’s 400-meter dash finals, graduate student Kenisha Phillips ran a personal-best time of 52.31 seconds to earn second place and move to second in program history. She earned the women 8 points. 

In the men’s 100-meter dash finals, graduate student Antonio Laidler tied his personal best of 10.19 seconds to finish second. Junior Trelee Banks earned a new personal best of 10.45 seconds to earn seventh. The pair added 10 points. 

Laidler claimed fifth in the men’s 200-meter dash finals in 20.58 seconds. 

In the men’s 400-meter hurdle finals, graduate student Micah Camble placed sixth in 52.92 seconds and sophomore John Colquitt seventh in 53.35 seconds. 

Laidler and Banks were joined by sophomore Novo Onovwerosuoke and junior Otto De St Jeor for the 4x100-meter relay. The group placed fifth with a time of 39.79 seconds, adding five points and moving up to fourth in program history. 

In the men’s 4x400-meter relay, Laidler joined Marshall, Camble and sophomore Nico Colchico to finish the race in a season-best time of 3:09.15 and secure eighth place. 

Phillips, sophomore Ryann Parrish and seniors Morgan Snow and Maddie Russin teamed up for the women’s 4x400-meter relay, finishing third in a season-best time of 3:37.44 and taking over the fifth spot in program history. 

The Hoosiers await to learn who will earn bids to the preliminary meet for the east region. Selected participants in the east region and west regional preliminary meets compete for the opportunity to advance to the Outdoor Track and Field Championships. 

The east preliminary meet takes place May 22-25 in Lexington, Kentucky.
