I do like this more than the other Basement Jaxx albums I've heard, but it's still not something I think I would seek out again. "Good Luck," however, I would seek out again because it's a fantastic song. The misspelled title track, with help from Siouxsie Sioux, is pretty great as well.

The best Basement Jaxx album? I have always liked "Good Luck" which was a sizable hit in 2003. However, Kish Kash contains surprisingly many nice tracks. Of those, both "Right Here's the Spot" and "Feels Like Home" feature Meshell Ndegeocello, whose vocals seem to fit this kind of music nicely. "Plug It In" and "Hot 'n' Cold" are also fine. "Cish Cash" features, of all vocalists, Siouxsie, and the result is quite good once again. Without some notably worse numbers like "Supersonic", I might consider rating this album even 4.0.

I think this album is pretty good and it might even be great. It might be a hidden gem.
This album finds a terrific middle ground between funky house (with a lot of big beat influence) and dance-pop. Many of these songs could be hit singles.
The foundations of a lot of these songs are solid but the creativity that Basement Jaxx brings to them and the little experiments and flourishes is what makes them so good. Sometimes the song is just a mosaic of sonic inspiration like "Supersonic".

Living Room might literally be the best dancing track in history of music. The rest of the album is good I guess, it sounds like that stuff they call hyperpop nowadays except the performers here are actually talented.
Living Room: 5/5
Rest of the album: 3.5/5

If I Ever Recover
What is going on here? I am really hearing this?.. and I'm not even high.Listening to "Right Here's The Spot", it's clear that this is one of the most incredibly produced albums I have ever heard. Forget the kitchen sink, this has so much going on it's bordering on insane, but it fucking works!
"Lucky Star" is just about one of the funkiest things they have ever come up with, and "Supersonic" is just plain crazy - but it's bloody amazing!
The craziness continues with the Prince-channelling JC Chasez fronting "Plug It In", which features a rather tasty outro, leading directly into the eerie "Cosmolude" (the only interlude worth mentioning). What follows is one of Basement Jaxx's finest ever moments, the beautiful "If I Ever Recover", which just screams vintage Pet Shop Boys.
This brings us to the incredible stand-out track, "Tonight", which, with its intricate percussion, latin guitar and dramatic strings, is gloriously reminiscent of the incomparable "Ren-de-vuz", from their brilliant debut, Remedy.
Kish Kash ends on a rather trippy note, with the hypnotic closer "Feels like Home", which draws its strength from the haunting vocals.
In a nutshell : excellent.

Lots of great fun songs all over with the Basement boys covering lots of different styles in a very economical manner. Lucky Star features Dizzee Rascal's hyperactive annoying rapping and some slinky eastern type samples.

A fantastic, trashy monster of an album.

Back in the day, Basement Jaxx used to be a favourite of mine. So, when I found this on an old CD-R, I thought I'd take a trip down memory lane. God was that a bad idea. Every song is boring and bloated with random textures and motifs, not made better by the astronomical song lengths, which just prolong the agony. A waste of a good hour.
