Notes and Trivia

  • Production for Season 5 began in the Summer-Fall of 2021, with filming ending on December 19th.
  • Miguel goes back to going a full season after being absent in one from the season before.
  • According to Hayden Schlossberg, this season will answer the long-awaited question of what would happened if Daniel had lost the All Valley championship in The Karate Kid Part III.[6]
  • Season 5 is a substantial season for Robby and his allegiances.[7]
  • The scroll that Chozen gave Daniel in Season 3 is not the crane technique scroll, but a new scroll. There's more history to the scrolls that will be explored in Season 5.[7]
  • Josh Heald teased Season 5 by saying, "Chozen is somebody who ties into the more aggressive past where fighting wasn’t about a contest, it was about life and death. He still feels like he owes Daniel some help, and he wants to make amends even though Daniel has forgiven him. From that alone, I feel like audiences can infer the energy with which Season 5 is going to begin. There are quite a bit of storylines that start spinning very fast and very aggressively as we enter next season."[7]
  • Hayden Schlossberg teased Season 5 by saying, "all the Karate Avengers are getting together right now and getting ready for something… We don’t know what it’s going to be, we don’t know how it’s going to go. But we know that the stakes are high and things have never been worse and actions need to be taken."[8]
  • Portions of Season 5 were filmed in Puerto Rico.[9]
  • On March 3rd, 2022, composures began working on the first three episodes of the season.[10]
  • On April 17, 2022, Jon Hurwitz confirmed that the editing for S5 was completed, though composures were still working on the score for the back half of the season. He teased that a release date was unknown, but more information would be available at Cobra Kai Netflix Is a Joke on May 5, 2022.[11]
  • Xolo Maridueña's involvement in Blue Beetle has no impact on his availability for his role in Cobra Kai.[12]
  • The relationship between Robby and Johnny is further explored in Season 5.[13]
  • Cobra Kai: Live & Badass is a one night event taking place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, CA, on May 5, 2022. The event kicks off the Season 5 press tour and presents the first look at the new season.
    • The panel featured Ralph Macchio, William Zabka, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Dallas Dupree Young, Martin Kove, Gianni DeCenzo, Vanessa Rubio, Griffin Santopietro, Josh Heald, Hayden Schlossberg, Bret Ernst, Dan Ahdoot, Jon Hurwitz, Courtney Henggeler, and Peyton List.
    • The first sneak peek for the season was revealed at the Microsoft Theater during the 'Live & Badass' event.[14]
  • This is the first season to premiere in the Fall since the show's move to Netflix. Seasons three and four aired on New Year's Day and New Year's Eve respectively, while seasons one and two were in May and April, respectively.
  • On July 17, 2022, Jon Hurwitz did an impromptu Q&A session on his Twitter, in which he encouraged fans to ask him questions about the upcoming season of Cobra Kai.
    • Robby and Tory will appear in at least one scene together.[15]
    • Devon Lee and Moon will appear more in Season 5.[16][17]
    • People will get hurt in the Season 5 finale.[18]
    • Miguel's storyline this season is a multifaceted roller-coaster.[19]
    • Sam and Miguel's relationship is in an interesting place entering Season 5.[20]
  • This is the first season to feature Gianni Decenzo as a special guest star, as opposed to this "starring" credit in previous seasons.
  • This is also the first season where the Cobra Kai credits theme is heard in all the episodes' credits, breaking the tradition of the season finale playing a different credits theme from seasons 1 to 4.
