COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown saw his lead shrinking in a contest against all three of his potential Republican opponents, according to the results of a new poll released Thursday.

Brown still leads all three of his potential opponents – state Sen. Matt Dolan, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, and businessman Bernie Moreno – but has lost ground on all three since the last poll in November.

The Emerson College survey shows Brown leading Dolan 38% to 37%, LaRose 39% to 37%, and Moreno 39% to 37%. The results all fall within the poll’s 2.3% margin of error.

In November, Brown’s lead on the three potential Republicans was greater – 41% to 38% over Dolan, 41% to 36% over LaRose, and 42% to 32% over Moreno.

According to Emerson, Brown holds the edge over independent and female voters while male voters prefer any of the Republicans over Brown.

The poll also found that 42% of likely voters in the March 19 Republican primary still haven’t selected their candidate. Among likely voters, Moreno leads the pack with 22% of the vote, LaRose second with 21% and Dolan with 15%. This is a 10-point gain for Moreno who, since the last poll, was endorsed by former President Donald Trump, the party’s presumptive presidential nominee.

The Trump endorsement appears to be a boon for Moreno, with 25% of respondents who voted for Trump in 2020 saying they would vote for the businessman, compared to 20% for LaRose and 12% for Dolan.

Speaking of the presidential race, poll results found Trump was likely to carry Ohio for a third-straight election, leading 47% to President Joe Biden’s 36%. Both presumptive candidates’ support dipped slightly from the November poll – then at 50% for Trump and 38% for Biden.

The poll surveyed 1,844 Ohio registered voters between Jan. 23-25, 2024.
