BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/FOX58) — Former Bakersfield High and Garces Memorial High head football coach Paul Golla was introduced as the newest head coach of the Independence High School football program on Thursday.

Golla assumes the vacant spot left behind by Tyler Schilhabel, head coach of the Falcons since 2018. Schilhabel reportedly stepped down as coach but still teaches at Independence High.

In 2019, Golla left Bakersfield High School to coach the Garces Memorial High Rams.

He had been at BHS since 2004, winning a Division I state title in 2012 and five league titles.

Before that, Golla coached in Texas, North Dakota, and California at the collegiate and high school levels.
