Ferdinand Maximilien Mériadec (Rohan) de Rohan (1738-1813) | WikiTree FREE Family Tree
Ferdinand Maximilien Mériadec "Prince-Archbishop of Cambrai" Rohan was born about 1738, the son of Hercule Meriadec de Rohan, prince de Guéméné and Louise-Gabrielle Julie de Rohan. He was invested as Archbishop of Cambrai in 1781. He died in Paris about 1813. [1]
Ferdinand became the lover of Charlotte Stuart, who because she was the illegitimate daughter of Charles Edward Stuart, was not permitted to marry. Charlotte had three children by Ferdinand de Rohan. Their existance was kept secret, King Charles never knowing he had three grandchidren. King Charles in exile and ill later claimed Charlotte as his daughter and heir. Charlotte cared for her father until his death. Two years later she died. Charlotte did not name her children in her will but left provision for her mother with an understanding that she would care for them. Charlotte Stewart's children were left in the care of her mother, the former mistress of King Charles Edward Stuart, Clementina Walkinshaw.[2][3]
