Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders, 38th Match

KKR
171/6(20)
CSK
172/8(20)
PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Chennai Super Kings continue their winning start in the UAE leg and it is three out of three at the moment. Also their second straight run chase on these slow surfaces and they are setting up a template on how to go about chasing. KKR came into this game with a lot of confidence and two back to back wins, they put up a good fight but it was not good enough on the day. They still remain in fourth place but not for long as Mumbai Indians are in action and they have a chance to topple them. Switch tabs and catch all the action from that game. Cya!
Ravindra Jadeja | Player of the Match: It is difficult. You have been playing Test cricket for five months and suddenly you have to come and play whiteball cricket. It was difficult. In the nets also I was working my batswing. So I was thinking whatever I have done in the nets I have to repeat in the match. The runs I got in the second last over was more important than the wicket because that was match-winning for us. Everybody does their team role. Rutu, Faf, they gave us a good start, That's what you need as a team, you need to be collective as a team. I was just backing my strength. I knew he had fine leg and square leg up, so he was going to bowl a wide yorker or a slower ball. So I was waiting for that and he bowled a slower length ball and I was ready, luckily I connected off the middle of the bat and we are on the winning side today.
Dhoni | CSK captain: It's a very nice victory to have. What we've seen in cricket is at times you play good cricket and lose the game, while at times you don't really play well but still if you win the game - it's slightly more enjoyable for the simple reason that you'll still address the mistakes but going back one and a half hours to Dubai you'll be in a better mood. So a terrific game at the end of the day. It was good cricket from both sides and it was a pleasure for the spectators. I think in patches we bowled well. Bowlers took responsibility. Not to forget it was hot and humid. It was hot and humid - it's not easy for the fast bowlers. We tried to give them smaller spells - one or two over spells - to keep their energy level up. We did pretty well in bowling. 170 was a par score. It was not like yesterday's game where the wicket was slow. When Jadeja was bowling you could figure out it was coming on well and was not stopping. But the kind of start we got, I think KKR deserve an upper hand for making a game out of it. Initially we were also worried about how the wicket will be. But quite a few times what I've seen personally is when you keep playing on the same wicket and as the tournament progresses at times the groundsmen are slightly more worried so they put more water and maybe roll it harder than usual because they're not worried about the grass dying. I think that could be one of the reasons why the wicket played better against the spinners today. I don't think they'll be using the wicket again - it'll get some rest, so that could be the reason. It gives immense pleasure to say we have rectified the problems we had and it's good to be on the winning side.
Eoin Morgan | KKR captain: First and foremost, it was a hell of a game to be part of. Both sides played exceptionally well. CSK managed to get over the line. I don't think I can fault anything from the guys today. They fought hard on a hot day. Unfortunately it wasn't ours. There have been a lot of positives from our side in the second half of the tournament, so I think just take the positives from today.. that is to be in the game like we did today to give us the best chance of winning the game. Difficult to say (If he would have bowled Russell/Narine for the 19th if the former was on the field). In that situation you need wickets. Sunil is a great option. So is Dre (Russell). We hope he is okay. But Sunil takes on that responsibility with every franchise he goes to. So no better man really. Whole tournament there has an been abundance of top plass international players. Some of the Indian uncapped players too have the promise to go on even play international cricket. But when Jadeja plays like that - similar to how Sam Curran plays in the England team - there's not much you can do. All to do with matchups, guys coming in (about bowling his mystery spinners early vs MI and holding them back today). For you to have the privilege of holding them back, the bowlers before have to bowl well. I think today it worked pretty well.
Ruturaj Gaikwad: I was hiding behind one of our members, was very nervous (to watch the last ball, smiles). When you are chasing a big total, the opening stand is crucial. We managed to do it today. Would have been better if one of us batted till the 13th over. The game wouldn't have come this closer. He (Dhoni) is very cool. everyone sitting in the dugout is used to the pressure in their international careers too. So I think they are really cool and back themselves to cross the line, The last ball (didn't want to see), because if there was a Super Over. maybe I could have batted and all the nervousness could have kicked in. Obviously after every win we do have celebrations. And when we lose the atmosphere is quite chilled out and normal as well/. When we win we celebrate a lot.

17:57 Local Time, 13:57 GMT, 19:27 IST: Phew! So many twists and turns and it is the experienced CSK line-up that kept their nerves in the end. Could Narine have bowled the 19th? We can only contemplate now. CSK seemed to be cruising through the first half of the chase thanks to a 74-run opening stand but Morgan played his cards perfectly. He held back his mystery spinners for the old ball and though Narine went for 41 in his four overs, he picked up 3 wickets. Chakaravarthy too did his part well, conceding only 22 runs in his four and getting the crucial wicket of Dhoni. However, it was Jadeja who had the final say in the game as he blasted 20 off the penultimate over and put CSK in such a position that even though they lost Curran and Jadeja in the final over, they were able to get over the line.

Narine to Chahar, 1 run, CSK win a nail-biter. Chahar kept his cool and ensured he got some bat on his shot. This was the carrom ball outside off, Chahar moves across and mows it across the line, managed to clear mid-wicket and that was enough
Deepak Chahar, right handed bat, comes to the crease

Narine to Jadeja, out Lbw!! That's a brave call from umpire Tapan Sharma. He's standing in his first IPL game and made a brave decision. Jadeja went for the sweep and missed, he's struck on the pad around off-stump and Sharma raised his finger. Ball-tracking showed the impact was umpire's call and the onfield decision stays. Jadeja lbw b Narine 22(8) [4s-2 6s-2]
Narine to Jadeja, THATS OUT!! Lbw!!
CSK review! Jadeja is given out LBW and he wastes no time to send it upstairs. The impact is the only thing that can save him. UltraEdge rules out any bat. Over to ball-tracking.. Impact umpire's call and wickets hitting. OUT!

Narine to Jadeja, no run, drifting in from round the wicket, Jadeja misses the flick and the ball rolls back down the wicket, no chance of a single
Everyone is inside the ring to stop the single. Narine to Jadeja..
19.3
Narine to Thakur, 3 runs, that's neatly done. Thakur plants his front foot across and paddles it fine, long chase for Varun and he just manages to get there, still keeps KKR in the game by saving a run. Over to Jadeja with 1 off 3

Narine to Thakur, no run, beaten. This is getting interesting. Carrom ball and Thakur does not pick it, he swings through the line and the ball straightens to beat the outside edge. 4 off 4..
Shardul Thakur, right handed bat, comes to the crease

Narine to Sam Curran, out Caught by (sub)K Nagarkoti!! Is there a twist? Surely not. Curran could have done it smartly. Or even bring Jadeja back on strike but he takes matters into his own hands and perishes. Takes a couple of steps down and lofts it towards long-off, no height to clear the fielder and Nagarkoti takes a good catch. 4 off 5.. Sam Curran c (sub)K Nagarkoti b Narine 4(4)
