Sophie Turner Calls Aftermath of Joe Jonas Split the 'Worst Few Days of My Life': 'I'm Still in Shock'

"It felt like I was watching a movie of my life that I hadn't written, hadn't produced, or starred in," Turner told 'British Vogue' for its June 2024 cover issue

Sophie Turner is shedding new light on the days after she split from former husband Joe Jonas.

As part of British Vogue’s June 2024 cover story, Turner, 28, opened up about the days after news broke of her pending divorce from the ex-Disney star, 34. The pair — who share daughters Willa, 3½, and Delphine, 22 months — wed in 2019 and separated last year. Headlines following the divorce filing painted Turner as a partier who neglected her parental duties.

“I mean, those were the worst few days of my life,” the Game of Thrones alum told the publication. “I remember I was on set, I was contracted to be on set for another two weeks, so I couldn’t leave. My kids were in the States and I couldn’t get to them because I had to finish Joan. And all these articles started coming out …”

Photos circulated of the actress at a wrap party for Joan in Birmingham, England, and rumors of her being a bad mother spread through gossip forums and tabloids. She had to remind herself that “none of this is true” and that she was “a good mum.”

“I mean, it’s unfathomable the amount of people that will just make s--- up and put it up based on a picture,” Turner said. “A picture might tell a thousand words, but it’s not my story. It felt like I was watching a movie of my life that I hadn’t written, hadn’t produced, or starred in. It was shocking. I’m still in shock.”

“There were some days that I didn’t know if I was going to make it. I would call my lawyer saying, ‘I can’t do this. I just can’t,’” the Do Revenge actress recalled. “And then, finally, after two weeks of me being in a rut, she reminded me that it was my children I was fighting for.”

Now, Turner is in a much better place.

“There’s something about a community and a support system that I’ve never realised is so important up until now,” she shared. “And I think the reason I was on medication for so long is because I didn’t have those people with me. Now that I’m back home, I’m actually the happiest I’ve been in a really long time. I’m starting over again, rediscovering what I like to do, who I like to be with.”

On Sept. 5, 2023, Jonas filed to dissolve his marriage to Turner in Miami, with the documents obtained by PEOPLE stating that “the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken.”

Later that month, Turner sued Jonas for the “wrongful retention” of their children, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE. The complaint against the singer called for "the immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained,” which her legal team claimed began on Sept. 20, 2023.

"The Father has possession of the children’s passports. He refuses to return the passports to the Mother and refuses to send the children home to England with the Mother,” the lawsuit read.

The same day, Jonas responded to the suit, deeming the claims “misleading.” A rep for the musician referred to the dispute as “an unfortunate legal disagreement about a marriage that is sadly ending.”
