Former Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg to change 'not guilty' plea
Former Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg will change his plea in Federal Court on Monday.
The Change of Plea hearing will take place Monday at 10 a.m. in Orlando, where Greenberg must be present.
Greenberg, a central figure in the ongoing investigation into Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, has been working toward a plea deal with federal prosecutors investigating a sex trafficking operation.
The change could signal that Greenberg could potentially serve as a witness in the Justice Department’s investigation into Gaetz.
Last month, Greenberg's attorney filed a plea of not guilty for the former Seminole County Tax Collector on his charges. A waiver of appearance was also filed to all 33 charges at that time.
Greenberg faces charges including sex trafficking of a child alleging "sugar daddy relationships," stalking and aggravated identity theft, bribery of a public official, theft of government property and wire fraud.
The Justice Department says Greenberg derived monetary gain amounting to $400,000 from the Seminole County Tax Collector's Office and more than $430,000 from the federal government through the relief act.
Greenberg's indictment followed years of controversy, from the arming of his tax collectors with guns to spending thousands on machines to enable customers to pay taxes in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
