What are your thoughts on Silver Linings Playbook ?
I'm just curious, because I absolutely love this movie, but I know that it's not really for everyone. I think the movie is fucking hilarious. A lot of the humor is just the characters being unhinged, socially awkward, or weird, but at the same time it's kind of endearing and doesn't really feel like it's at their expense. It's kind of hard to explain. The characters are all flawed people, but idk, I find them charming in a weird way (it helps that the acting is stellar across the board).
I also really like the way the movie approaches mental illness. Instead of a movie about characters descending into madness, it's about characters recovering and finding ways to improve their mental health without taking medications (some people might get offended by this, but I really like this aspect of the movie). I also think the rom com aspect of the movie works really well, I was rooting so hard for them to get together and it always feels so good when they do.
I don't think the cinematography or editing really stands out -- not that it's bad, but it's understated and really just about telling the story. The acting and the script is really what makes this movie work. It's a bit cliche and predictable, and there are some story contrivances here and there, but it all works really well for me.
