A brand new teaser for Charmed season four has hinted at the mysterious arrival of a new Charmed One, but is everything as it seems?

Following season three's shock finale, which saw Madeleine Mantock's Macy Vaughn exit the series, Australian actress Lucy Barrett was ultimately confirmed as her replacement.

Now, ahead of Charmed's return in March, Melonie Diaz and Sarah Jeffery's Mel and Maggie Vera are seen in a first look coming to terms with their loss of their sister.

The official synopsis for Charmed's fourth season hints that Lucy Barrett's character might not be Mel and Maggie's long-lost sister after all.

"After the tragic death of their sister, Mel and Maggie struggle to get back on their feet until a fateful encounter with the new Charmed One reawakens the Power of Three… and their sisterhood," it begins.

"But who is this mysterious young artist from Philadelphia, and why was she – of all people – chosen to take on the mantle of a Charmed One?

"Could she be their long-lost sister? Or is she something else entirely?"

The description goes on to reveal that the Power of Three (or Two) will "need all of the help they can get" as they uncover the truth about a new "threat".

"Whoever is coming after [the Charmed Ones] has a plan," it continues. "And if it succeeds, it will mean the end of the Power of Three… forever."

As well as a new Charmed One, the supernatural series has also switched up its crew behind the scenes, with Jeffrey Lieber, Nicki Renna and Joey Falco replacing previous showrunners Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro.

Charmed airs on The CW in the US and E4 in the UK.
