Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr. – I Hope We Get To Love In Time Lyrics | Genius Lyrics

I Hope We Get To Love In Time Lyrics

[Billy Davis Jr]
I hope we get to love in time
'Cause I got to make you mine
Before I lose you; I couldn't stand the pain

[Marilyn McCoo]
The road to love has tragedies
Some loves don't get to be
Laying the tears in someone's eyes, I won't cry

[Billy Davis Jr]
And it could happen to us if we're not strong
So why don't we hurry to love before it's gone

[Chorus]
I hope we get to love in time
'Cause I got to make you mine
Before I lose you, I couldn't stand the pain
I hope you'll fall in love with me
'Cause it would be a tragedy
If I should lose you, I couldn't stand the pain

[Marilyn McCoo]
The gates are open, we're so close
Love is almost ours to hold
A few more steps and we'll be there, if you care
[Billy Davis Jr]
We'll make it together, it's easier that way
With two falling deeper love will soon be ours to stay

[Chorus]
I hope we get to love in time
'Cause I got to make you mine
Before I lose you, I couldn't stand the pain
I hope you'll fall in love with me
'Cause it would be a tragedy
If I should lose you, I couldn't stand the pain

About

Genius Annotation

Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr. were married in 1969, when both were members of The Fifth Dimension. They left the band in 1975, and I Hope We Get To Love In Time was their first release as a duo.

The title track was a minor hit when it was released as the album’s first single, and then soft-voiced pop music superstar Larry Santos covered their song on his sixth album, “Don’t Let The Music Stop”,

but it was the second single from Marilyn and Billy that would immediately take over radio stations across the country. “You Don’t Have To Be A Star (To Be In My Show)” went straight to the top of both the Billboard Hot 100 and Soul charts upon its release, and would go on to win a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
