One of the strangest of the big MGM musicals. Almost nothing happens and what plot there is plays out in a far more melodramatic fashion than you'd expect. Still, the musical numbers are mostly great and Garland is wonderful in this.

I don't understand why this movie is still culturally relevant. It may have been good for it's time, but some things need to just stay in the past. What really boggles my mind is the 100% critic review and 85%+ audience score on RM. I don't know what to trust anymore.

Don't get me wrong. I liked this movie. It was a well done musical...IT'S NOT A CHRISTMAS MOVIE! It's a movie that takes place over the course of a year, and happens to end around Christmas time...Die Hard is more of a Christmas Movie than this is. If you're in the mood for a charming and delightful musical, you're in the right place. If you're looking for a holiday movie...keep on swiping.

The high point of this otherwise meandering, saccharine mess of a movie is Judy singing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. Nice indeed, but not enough, alas, to redeem the whole package.
