How did Eduardo Saverin build his net worth?

Eduardo Luiz Saverin is a Brazilian billionaire entrepreneur based in Singapore who made his fortune as one of the co-founders of Facebook.

Saverin held 53 million shares in the social media giant, just under 2% of the total, in 2012. This shareholding represents the lion’s share of his wealth.

He settled a lawsuit out of court against co-founder and Harvard classmate Mark Zuckerberg who tried to water down his shareholding by bringing others onboard the Facebook train. Following this, Saverin sold half of his Facebook shares, netting him around $2.8 billion. That was way back, and the balance is worth a lot more now, even with Meta stock's lackluster performance.

Saverin invests in fintech, payments, privacy and security, transportation and logistics, and travel and tourism startups. The value and dividends from his remaining half of the Facebook shares and launching a venture fund, B Capital, which now has $6.5 billion in assets under management, ensures Saverin remains incredibly wealthy.

And it doesn't help that he lives in the low tax haven of Singapore.

According to reports, one of Eduardo’s earliest properties bought in Singapore was one of four super luxurious 5,000 sq ft penthouses at Orchard Residences.

One of Saverin’s most notable purchases is a good-class bungalow along Nassim Road, where quite a number of such places are located. This is rumored to be the most expensive property transaction in Singapore’s history. At a purchase price of an incredible $230 million, this huge 2-story bungalow boasts a tennis court, swimming pool, and a long driveway ensuring privacy from nosey passersby.

Sculptura is a high-rise condo housing a 10,300 sq ft duplex penthouse, which Saverin purchased in 2017 for S$60 million. Two others in the same block are for sale at $60 million.

Saverin flies high with Singapore's in-crowd and is notorious for his playboy image, sparing no expense at entertaining at exclusive clubs. Not seeing him in the company of “beautiful people” splashing around the finest champagne would be strange. He reportedly flies in DJs for his copious, lavish parties.

Saverin took an ex-Miss Universe, Rachel Kum, under his wing, investing an unknown sum in her cosmetics company. He has also plowed money into an information site called Qwiki and an online payment service called Jumio. We think these may be on the expenditure side of the balance sheet.
