Newton South High School Reviews
Rating 3.8 out of 5 339 reviews
As a young lesbian born and raised until age 14 in rural North Carolina, there was nothing more refreshing than the accepting environment of Newton, Massachusetts. While there are so many benefits to my school such as safety, connections, and plethora of classes, I cannot ignore the blatant cons. I have realized that the high wealth in my town has influenced many students and adults to be less well-rounded humans. On another note, the lack of diversity was astounding. The lack of black and brown students in my school was something I wasn't used to and I would like to see that change.
The best part of my experience here has been the extensive amount of resources, class choices, and organizations at Newton South. My only complaint would be the math department. I have not enjoyed a single math class I have been in at Newton South, and they have all been either too easy or too hard. With that being said, every other department at Newton South has been great, and I have really enjoyed my time here.
My time at Newton South High School was truly enriching. The academic environment was incredibly strong, with challenging courses that pushed me to excel. The teachers were not just educators but mentors who genuinely cared about their students. I remember one instance when my math teacher stayed after hours to help me grasp a complex concept, demonstrating the dedication and kindness that was a consistent theme throughout my experience. The sense of community at Newton South was palpable, and the support from both peers and faculty made it a nurturing place for personal and academic growth
